In Memory

Irma Torres (Steiner)

This morning I received the very sad news from Stan Schuka of the passing of Irma Torres Steiner from the class of 1970. As most of you know, Stan is married to Carmen Torres, Irma's sister.  Irma lived in the Raleigh, NC area.
I am sending Carmen and her entire family our deepest condolences on the loss of such a beautiful person as Irma was.

May she rest in eternal peace and May her family find comfort in their wonderful memories of her.

The services are being arranged by www.hallwynn.com.

Obituary

Irma Torres Steiner, a longtime Raleigh resident, was called home peacefully by the Lord Jesus on December 4, 2021 at the age of 69. She was born Irma Delia Torres on August 1, 1952 in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, and daughter of the late Brigido & Irma G. (Ortiz) Torres. Her family moved from Puerto Rico to Peekskill, New York where she attended Assumption Catholic School and graduated from Peekskill High School, class of 1970.

Irma worked for 18-years for the United States Postal Service, first as a distribution clerk and later as finance clerk at the Cameron Village Post Office, until she retired in 1995. Prior to the USPS, she worked at the St. Joseph’s Orphanage Home in Peekskill, caring for the children.

Affectionately known by many as ‘Delia’, ‘Auntie Irma’, or ‘Yaya’ by her grandchildren, she most enjoyed being a mother to Angela and grandmother to Ethan, Landon, and Cami.

Irma enjoyed the simple things in life; growing and tending to her flowers, thrift-shopping, home-decorating, and generous giving. Above all else, she valued God and the Love of family.

On February 14, 2000, she married Michael David Steiner, who survives at home.

Along with her devoted husband of 21-years, Irma is survived by her loving daughter Angela Biggerstaff Limthong and son-in-law Borphan Limthong, step-daughter Crystal Pittman, former husband and friend Daris Biggerstaff, and beloved grandchildren Ethan Limthong, Landon Pittman, and Camila Limthong.

Irma is also survived by her four sisters and four brothers: Maria (Greg) Thomas, Carmen (Stanley) Schuka, Peter (Vickie) Torres, William (Joanne) Torres, Anna (Andrew) Somers, Alfred Torres, Bernadette (John) Gordy, Carlos Torres (Amanda Ranalli). Several nieces & nephews: Bryan (Rochelle) Schuka, Bradley (Danielle) Schuka, Michael Schuka, Joseph Schuka, Paige Amstutz, Christina (Nick) Dunbar, April (Chris) Hager, Mary (Jon) Mitchell, Juli (Alex) Richani, Peter Somers, Alex Thomas, Meghan (Alex) Lederle, John Gordy III, and Antonia Torres. She is also survived by 7 great-nieces & 7 great-nephews.

Along with her parents, Irma and Brigido Torres, she was predeceased by a brother, Benjamin Torres.

Her Family & Friends will gather on Monday, December 13th from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel, Durham, where a Funeral Service will be held 2:00 pm followed by burial to the Maplewood Cemetery, Durham, NC.
