Tanya was one of my best friends through High School and College. We were roommates at SWT. She was just shy of graduating from college when she fell ill. She married a wonderful man, Dean Butler, who loved her more than anything. She got news that her cancer had returned just months after they married. They had a wonderful marriage and traveled to some of Tanyas favorite places before she passed. One of her favorite places was the Grand Canyon. Dean was so good to her. She lost her fight in 1996 just shy of her 26th birthday. I miss her more than anything. She was a great friend.

I did not have the good fortune to be very close friends with Tanya. I do remember her pretty brown eyes and her smile. She was very self-aware and it seemed there was always a twinkle in her eyes. She was postive and she was someone you could count on to smile and say "hi" everytime you saw her. She never seemed to be in a bad mood.

While preparing for the upcoming reunion (gathering old annuals and going through some pictures I have), I came across one of Tanya. It's a wonderful picture of her standing with a group of friends (actually taken at a party I threw my junior year at our family farm; what a "spectacle" THAT was). She has an amazing look on her face and is looking directly at the camera. I'll bring it to the reunion and also scan it into our picture album so everyone can see it. Coming across the photo in such an accidental way really touched me especially since I have been keeping up with everyone's posts in the "Memory" section of our web site. It was kind of like Tanya saying, "I'm here and sharing in everyone's excitement of getting together again at the reunion." How thoughtful of her...
