I actually returned to CMBI this year for Yom Kipput services. From my seat, I saw Robert's mother. It made think about Robert. It's funny how the memory of people stays with you, even when they are no longer around. Unfortunately,a loss makes me appreciate life more and makes me want to be a kinder person. Sometimes it takes a negative event as reason to strive to be better people. Peace. - Rise.
Robert I were good friends growing up. We lived across steet from each other and spent a lot of time at our houses playing board games. He slept over house a few times and I tried to teach him to be a better ahlete. I remember him being very tall and fast.
I REMEMBER ROBERT WAS HILLARIUS. HE WAS JOY LEVI'S STEP-NEIGHBOR. ONE NEW YEAR'S EVE WE ALL SLEPT OVER AS WAS TYPICAL SINCE PEARL (SHOUT OUT) ALWAYS HAD A BUFFET FOR US. AT SOME POINT ROBERT CLIMBED UP THE BACK>> TRULY SCALED THE WALL AND WAS PEEKING INTO JOY'S KITCHEN WINDOW. WE ALL LET OUT SUCH A GESHREI<<WE RAN UPSTAIRS AND CHANGED BACK OUT OF OUR 'BABYDOLL' (REMEMBER THOSE) PAJAMAS SO THAT CESAR WOULDN'T SEE US.
Robert had a happy, upbeat personality. He always had a smile when ever I looked up at him. Sometimes you don't realize what a person's charactor is truly about, it's not until you refelect that the pices come together. Robert was a kind understanding person. Robert was an outstanding person in life as in eternity.
Robert and I where the two tallest people in our classes We both always had to stand in the back when pictures where taken and where picked first for basket ball teams.
I had lots of close buddies growing up on 64th ave and in the neighborhood. Robert was my best buddy for the first 13 years.
We had some very crazy and wild times together. One of my fondest memories was going to and from school when they were building the apartments. We spent most of the time riding the hill at the apartments in grocery carts. We could not go past with out a few rides. Even today when I walk out of a store pushing a cart, woosh I am off riding to my car on the cart.
Robert had a way of pushing one to go all the way. He would not take no for an answer. Even today I feel like anything I set my mind to I can accomplish. While I am not nearly as daring as I was back then, I definitely have done a lot of things which most people would never consider doing.
Robert was my body guard if anyone ever gave me a hard time. It was us against them. He was strong and not one to mess around with.
Robert and i walked to hebrew school and services together. We loved to get lost in our own kind of way en-route.
Bicycling down the hill and turning into the driveway at the end of the street was always fun , for me, I would fly way high in the air with my banana seat bike and way tall sissy bars sticking up in the back ( I think that is what they were called).
Of course there was always a basketball game going on at his house but that was not one of my sports for some reason. I remember playing two touch on the street and he could mow right through, quick as a humming bird. Pimple ball was definitely a natural for him with long far hits. He was good at most things he did, including getting in trouble, but that is another story.
The last few times I saw him many years later when we visited in Berkeley and San Diego, he was going through some really rough times on the path he chose. In the end I hear he was trying to straighten out.
Robert, in what ever state of manifestation you might be, I wish you lots of light and love.
