Some of My memories: walking back and forth to Finletter four times a day and occasionally walking behind the woods at 2nd & Godfrey. Does anyone else remember falling into that little creek? I did and would have to make up a story when I got to school why my shoes and socks were wet!! And then the teacher would make me sit in the closet like I was bad!!
I remember how the clocks in the room ticked loudly and I couldn't wait til the bell sounded at dismissal. How about the weekly readers? You had to read them quickly before the bell went off, so you watched the clock, thought about everyone else turning the page before you; and then answered them incorrectly. I do remember holiday parties being fun at school, valentine cards being given out to (almost) everyone , cutting out presidents heads on construction paper and best of all was making easter baskets and getting jelly beans.
Track and field was my favorite. I remember being thought of as the fasted girl in the school (although I think that was in my mind) Going to track meets and my mom coming and trying to show off. I remember when we were lucky enough to stay at school for lunch I learned to love either a soggy tuna sandwich or cheese sandwich that stuck to my bread after it sat in my desk all morning. Best of all, if I got home quick enough at lunchtime Mom would make me pizza (back then it was considered a hot meal) and I would get to read my brothers comic books. But, the best of best treat was; if it rained, snowed or we had a blizzard my mom drove me to school, which if my memory serves me right was only twice over the 8 years of school. (no wonder why we were all so thin)
Other memories: I didn't hang at the "Wall" much but the protector of the wall and my hero was my brother, Bryan (Grit). Does anyone remember the Hill Creek gang or the cat and mouse car chase around Walnut Park Drive and Fariston Drive?? You would have to be from the older generation of this reunion to remember.
The best memory: Was sitting on your front step on a hot day and drinking either lemonade, waiting for the water ice truck (Paul) to come or playing hide and seek at night, does anyone remember??
