I've acquired an iadd-on occupation that's ironic to describe for this group: high-school English teacher. It happened last September when a school nearby lost one of its teachers to a three-week reserve callup and I agreed to fill in for him, my first teaching since 1982. But at the end of that term, other teachers were called up in succession, so I ended up with 2/3 of a full-time post involving all aspects of the profession. Among other oddities, it me my second-oldest son's colleague. It is definitely worth it; not sure about continuing next year.
Facebook has steered me to groups/pages called "I Grew Up In Arizona" and "Historical Places of World" [sic] with lots of photos of places and artifacts in AZ that are older than we are. A welcome break from reality, not that I have what to gripe about.
It's fifty years to the day since I left America for Israel, with which I identified from childhood. I allow myself one compliment about that: I hit the ground running and am still running. Running, for me, means trying to contribute to one's milieu -- my national enterprise in this case -- and make it a bit better than it would be otherwise. My wife, our four kids, the two grandchildren who are old enough to be "running," and basically our entire national community live by the same creed. It's a victorious strategy.
My country Israel has, let's say, been in the news of late. So after almost exactly 50 years of really intensive life here, I have some tools with which to explain various related things -- if you wish to ask about them.
One of two classmates living outside the U.S., among a large majority who remained in Arizona. So according to the map on the site. The person-by-person list shows 40 classmates living in Jamaica and 25 in Yukon Territory. Really?
