Laurel McConkey Allen

I received an Associates of Arts from Phoenix College, then transferred to the University of North Texas. After graduation I performed as a singer/actress in theaters throughout the U.S. It was on a national tour of A CHRISTMAS TOUR that I met the man that I would marry in 1985, Phillip Allen. My career took a slight detour, and I ended up making my living as a harpist, rather than as a musical theater/opera performer.

I always knew that West High was strong in music and academics, which I valued, but it wasn't until I met people from high schools all over the country that I realized what a special place West High really was. It was easy to make friends and hang out with a variety of people. The clique system was not rigid, as it was at so many other high schools. The faculty also seemed united in making West High a great school for all, rather than creating little kingdoms.
