Just to let everybody know, HOWARD HUGHES WAS THE BEST FRIEND I EVER HAD!!! We were competitors in Cross Country and Track. I really enjoyed the competition from him. He gave me incentive to run harder when we ran together. I have never had such a close friend as Howard. He was like a BROTHER to me. I never had any brothers or sisters, for I was an only child. He had such a pleasing personality. He was comical at times, and I really enjoyed his personality. It is hard to find a person in life that you really enjoy, but I could enjoy his company whenever we were together. Howard ran the half mile in track, and I ran the mile. My times in the mile I thought were good (4:32), but they could have been better if he ran with me. We were competitors!! I just can't believe he has left us! I felt with all of the runnings we had, that our hearts were be as big as basketballs, and that would benefit us as were to grow older. I know that everybody he came in contact with, loved his personality. I sure hope his wife (Sandra Bakondi) is reading this comment. I was really interested in you when you were at Alhambra. However, I was shy and not ready for any girls in those days because I guess I was too young and naive to get involved with women. So, Howard beat me to it! He even beat me at getting women, especially a cheerleader! Well, Howard, I hope you are looking down on me right now. I am still running every other day! Every time you see me running, I will be thinking about our competitive years, and not the women because you always got the good looking ones. I sure hope when I come up to "see" you, that you would please, at least, give me a chance at beating you in running competition and the women!!!!!!!!!
You will be missed by so many. Thank you for being a great friend for so many years. !!!!We will be sure your oh so special Sandi will be watched over and loved. Honk ""Nice Girlz"" Rosemary
My memories of Howard Hughes in high school were great times. We were classmates in Biology and teammates in Track and Cross Country. Howard was serious about his running and one of our Varsity's most talented. I was a Jr. Varsity runner most of the time, so was not up to his standards, but I enjoyed Howard's friendship. When we ran together at practice,.he would encourage me and give me running tips. He was often low key but had a great sense of humor. I guess you could say he was one of those I looked up to in high school. I did not know, Sandi Bakondi, whom he dated and eventually married, but I offer her my condolences.
Howard, thanks for your friendship a long time ago, and may God bless you.
