He was a good friend to me in High School. I found his obituary:

DORAN GROVES OBITUARY

With Margarita in hand I toast to a life well lived by Doran Kaye Groves.

Doran was a charmer from day one. On November 17, 1945 in Houston Texas, Doran was born with a smile on his face and the chubbiest cheeks you ever saw, with dimples to boot, causing every nurse on his floor to immediately fall in love with him.

After serving in Vietnam as a medic, Doran spent the next 20 years commercial fishing in Alaska, and exploring the Pacific Northwest, making hundreds of friends along the way, finally settling down in Skagway, Alaska.

Doran enjoyed working for the Alaska Marine Highway,  aboard the Matanuska Ferry. He worked his way up through the ranks, and after 20 years, retired as First Mate.

During his time off, Doran preferred traveling to far away places where the women were cheap, and the beer was warm and sensitive! Although his travels took him to exotic countries like Cuba, the Philippines, Thailand, Laos, and Africa, his favorite places were within Mexico, Central America and South America.

Doran's parents, James Harold Groves and Martha Jane Dawson, preceded him in death. Surviving family members include older brother Brooks Groves of Washington, sister Dorothy Groves Porter of Oregon, as well as thousands of people worldwide who loved him dearly.

On March 15th Doran's big ol' heart stopped beating. And just like he came into this world, he left, smiling. Knowing him, he is surrounded by beautiful senorita angels and drinking a bottomless Margarita! Happy trails my amigo... Salud!

I saw a comment on the net a while ago and It said somthing I am trying to embrace:  " I want to come screaming into the end of the race with my hair on fire, smoke and dust in the air,  and breathing hard"  Absolutely!!!  Forget this "checking out stuff" if I may sayso,  Best to all,   Cal
