Matthew Cordell Furze, Age 79 Matt was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota on June 21, 1943. He passed away in Phoenix, Arizona on November 11, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew Furze and Marjorie Harding Furze, his grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Ann Furze of Kansas City, Missouri. He will be missed by numerous cousins and friends. Matt graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre, South Dakota in 1961. While briefly attending South Dakota School of Mines he developed a passion for computers. He worked as a programmer/system analyst for the State of South Dakota before moving to Phoenix in 1971. He worked as a system analyst/programmer for several banks, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Arizona Department of Revenue and AHCCCS until his retirement in June of 2008. Matt Served in the South Dakota Army National Guard from September 1964 to March 1970. Matt enjoyed playing chess, often playing in tournaments and by mail. Following his retirement he expanded his interest in model railroading. He was a lifetime member of the National Model Railroad Association, NMRA. He also enjoyed woodworking, making plaques, ornaments and fancy pens. In lieu of services a celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2023. Memorials may be made to a no-kill animal organization of your choice.
