Virginia Hodgson

Virginia Hodgson

VIRGINIA HODGSON (Virginia L. Button)  (April 30, 1952 -- August 23, 2000)

It is with a sad heart that I list the death of Ginny Hodgson in 2000 at the age of 48.   Ginny's father, who now lives in Fox Chapel, tells us that he and his wife adopted Ginny.

She was living in Kentucky before she passed away.

A special 'thank-you' to Donna (Cwynar) Stoll, CAHS Class of 1974.  Ginny was one of the people I especially wanted to find, but had given up looking.  Donna, who worked on the Class of 1974 reunion, somehow found Ginny's father with the scant details I gave her, and made the call to fill in the blanks.  Thanks, Donna!

Mary Ann McTiernan, our teacher from CAHS, remembers Ginny, on the FB In Memory of Deceased Classmates group:   I remember Ginny as if it were only yesterday. She was friends with Guy Giove and one evening in the spring of their senior year, they knocked on my front door saying they were afraid we'd lose touch with me after they graduated. They met my parents and sat in the living room for about a half hour just laughing and telling my parents stories about me in school (one of the few times I was speechless). We did lose touch after they graduated, but I still have the memory of Ginny sitting in the living room entertaining my parents forty- four years ago. May she rest in peace.

I don't believe I saw this entry!!  I remember this visit to Miss McTiernan, the very friendly and congenial teacher of what class, I don't remember....., But Ginnie Hodgson lived 4 doors up the street, Thornberry Dr. Stratford and we were bold enough to visit the teacher

Since graduation, I have realized that as time passes all that we have are memories. As time goes on from high school unless you look at pictures and do actually have routine contact and conversation in the end the memories prove to be valuable. As best I can recall Ginnie had a warm comforting smile and was always ready to speak to anyone. From high school, my military service of 23 1/2 years and through my current job at UCSD (La Jolla, CA) memories bring back many thoughts and I could only wish to see and talk to former classmates and friends just one more time. We just never realize what we had or what past relationships mean until someone is gone. Definitely take from us way to early. May her memories live on for friends and family. RIP Ginnie!

This is a memorial post about Ginny.

Ginni was the oldest of the three children of John Glenn Button and Virginia Louise (McCullough) Button. She grew up outside of Pittsburgh, in the North Hills and Churchill Borough, and moved to Kentucky as a young adult. Ginni had a host of friends, bottomless energy, a keen sense of justice, and an exceedingly sharp wit. Near the end of her life, she moved to Kansas to be near her grandchildren. Although Ginni wanted to live much, much longer, she left behind many gifts, great and small. She had two memorial services: one in Kansas and the other in Kentucky, lovingly designed just for her old friends. Heaven is a wilder place because she's there.

Ginny pranked me in Jr. High. It was a great prank.
