Jack Larkin

Gary Stewart tells us:  "I just learned that Jack Larkin from our class has passed away. This happened about 2015 in Thailand. There was never an obituary or public announcement. I had lost contact with my old friend and then heard that he may have died. This prompted me to seek out some of Jack's family in the Pittsburgh area. I learned this after contacting Jack's cousin, Matt Riberich. Here is what I learned: Jack and his wife Boone, left Pittsburgh and went to Thailand in 2012. Jack met Boone in Thailand during the Vietnam conflict. Boone was from there. Jack died from complications while being treated for a leg injury he received in 2015."

Many great memories of Jack Larkin.  I have known him since the 6th grade at Altlatic Ave. Grade School.  We use to camp and go fishing over the years.  Favorite spots were Tionesta and Tidute Pa.  We did some Canoe trips together down the Upper Allegheny river near the New York line.  Got chased out of our campsite in Tidute by a large Black Bear back in 1968.  Thank Goodness for Jack's old Rambler Station Wagon.  We had to seek refuge in it that night.  Many stories and memories of Jack growing up.  After High School, Jack ended up joining the USAF.  In about 1972, he ended up in Thailand, during the Vietnam War.  He was part of a Helicopter team that helped rescue war refugees from villages in Thailand.  He ended up coming back to the States in 1974.  He met his wife, Boone, while he was stationed and brought her back with him.  Jack and Boone lived in North Braddock where they bought their home on Grant Street.  Jack learned to weld through his Veterans Benefits and took a job as a welder for an Industrial Fabricator in Pittsburgh.   He ended up working as a Supervisor after a few years with this company.    Through the years we stayed in contact.  Jack and Boone did not have any children.  In about 2008, Jack had some health issues and he ended up retiring from work.  In 2012, Jack and Boone sold their home in North Braddock and moved to Thailand.  Jack felt that his social security and pension buck could go further over there.  After Jack and Boone moved there, we lost contact with them.  Then, the sad news of his passing came.  Boone remains in Thailand.  She has family there.  Jack was always good to me.  He was kind to my family.   Rest in Peace our old friend, Jack.   Boone, you are in our thoughts and prayers.
