GARY McNAMARA (January 31, 1953 – January 17, 2009)
After graduation from CAHS in 1970, Gary went on to study at Penn State. He left after 2 years, and moved to Columbus, Ohio. He married, and moved to Colorado for several years. He returned to Columbus, and eventually divorced. Gary completed his degree in Communications at the Ohio State University, and was also employed there as an Admissions Counselor for incoming freshmen. He really enjoyed this work, and was much admired and liked by ‘counselees’ and staff alike.
In 1987, Gary had a hiking accident, suffering the first of several Traumatic Brain Injuries. In January of 2009, he died, as a result of ongoing complications from the brain injuries. Through all the difficulties of the last 22 years of his life, Gary never lost his great sense of humor. He is survived by his sister, Kathleen (Kathy) McNamara Matthews (CAHS ‘66).

Gary's sister, Kathleen, shared the sad news with us that Gary passed away in 2009.

So very sorry to hear this. Gary sat behind me in Mrs. Gottleib's Biology class (Grade 10). Remember that class, Carlotta Bohm & Jeff Massey? The four of us had fun, and funny times, especially getting those lab assignments done.
In Grade 12, Gary & I were lab partners; this time for Physics. I joke sometimes that the reason I passed Physics was Gary McNamara.
The last time I saw Gary was at Penn State, fall, or winter, of 1973. He was up visiting a friend; it was my first year at Main Campus and he took the time to look me up, and drop in to say, "Hi."
Gary was one of those people for whom "I always thought that I'd see you, again." Too bad that is not the case. R.I.P, Gary. You are missed.

So sorry to hear this. Gary and I pitched baseball together both for Churchill and for the Wilkins team in the Lincoln Colt League. He was a great teammate and a great guy. Those teams were a lot of fun for a number of years. I was hoping to see him at our coming gathering. He will be missed.
