Grant and his brothers lived on Standish Blvd. He went to Markham School, Mellon, then the HighSchool, then Muskingum College. Grant was a fun guy, as I remember, and well coordinated. We did alot of playground running and neighborhood sports together. I never saw him after college so all my recollections are of our school and neighborhood "childhood".

Grant lived in the Ordale Boulevard neighborhood my family moved into when I was in 5th grade. He "adopted" me my first day of school, helped me figure out how to get to Markham and back, played with me after school and on weekends, and was essentially my best friend the first few years I was in Mt. Lebanon. In fact, we became "blood brothers" while we were still young enough to ignore the fact that I was a girl. When we hit 7th grade and went to big Mellon instead of little Markham, we drifted apart. When we were much older — maybe in our 40s? – we talked on the phone once. He was visiting his brother John who had stayed in touch with my sister Carol and got my phone number from her. He told me he had enjoyed a successful career as a regional manager for one of the big global corporations (GE maybe?). His "region" was the Pacific Rim! His first wife died of anorexia and left him to single parent their daughter, who later suffered from kidney failure and needed a kidney transplant. Grant was a match and donated one of his kidneys. John tells me she's still living, and if I ever find the old photos of Grant and me at age 10, I'll send them to her. I think Grant remarried a woman who had children of her own, but I don't know much about his second family. John told me Grant died of lung cancer, which John has never understood because Grant didn't smoke. Grant was a good friend, and I wish he were still around to help me remember those lovely chidlhood days we spent together.

Grant owned a 1959 (I think) light blue Plymouth Fury convertible with a white top and white leather interior. Grant, Glenn Williams and I used to take it to the Hill District in the summer and park on Wiley Avenue, leave the top down and go to the Hurricane to party. You can imagine the visitors that that car attracted. And, there was never any problem. Can you imagine what would happen to that car, and probably us, it we did that today?

I enjoyed your friendship Grant. Rest in peace.

Grant was a good person and friend. We knew each other in high school, but became better friends when we both went to Muskingum College. He and I pledged the Stag Club (local fraternity) together (along with Dick Foster, Howard Kocmond, Dave Barone, Glenn Williams, others?, all Mt Lebanon '59 grads). He didn't graduate from Muskingum but I don't recall why. Many good memories of Grant. He left us at too young an age...what's too young? Bob Caldwell
