I would have to say that Mr. Sassi and Mr. Barge were my favorite teachers. We used to abuse Mr. Barge in World History but he didn't get too upset with us.

Alisa, good luck with your Masters, I hope your thesis doesn't run too long to keep you from the meeting! :)

Mr. Sassi and Mr. Barge always let us act like idiots and didn't get upset which was nice. I agree with Jacqui C- I always really liked Mr. Curry. I only had him for a semester for speech, but he was cleaning out his closet one day and gave me a book that is now one of my favorites (Watership Down). Sorry, once a geek, always a geek!

I just ran into Mr. Curry at the grocery store a month or two ago. I'm not sure how many people know that a few years ago he had a brain aneurysm and that he was walking down steps at the time so he ended up breaking his neck and was in a halo for quite a while. He seems to be doing great and is really such a doll.

My top 2 favorites were...
Believe it or not my favorite was Mrs. Roberts...chem teacher. She was always so sweet.
And...Mr. Haduck...psych...just super nice!!

I am at work obviously trying not to actually do any work and I read all of the previous posts. Wow! Feels like yesterday (if I was totally drunk yesterday and the details are a bit fuzzy).
I don't think anyone actually mentioned what Tony B's car was. I guess it was a gremlin. He did have others. As anyone on the soccer team can attest to. He once bought a VW bug and cut the roof off with a circular saw. He had huge burn marks on his chest for weeks.
Larry Jacket was a year or two ahead of us. He lived on Carrol street (down the alley) from my house. His dad owned and ran a bar. He was the type to be called to the office every day. I think it had something to do with him parking over by the gym.

Jackie Cosgrove! Thanks for bringing up Ms. Mack. I will fondly remember her as the first and last teacher that my dad took my side with. She called my dad and Tom Ruskey's mom in for a conference. We were both dreading the backlash of that meeting. My dad came out and said "Ok you are right. She is a bitch, but she is still a teacher so steer clear of her." Greatest day of my life to that point!

Oh and Mr. Koytek was/is the man! I remember thinking he was a genuinely happy person. I didn't think that was possible for "old people" He was passionate about teaching, loved his wife and daughter more than I though was possible, played the drums on the weekend, never snitched on me for drinking at The Staircase when I wasn't working, and ALWAYS had a smile on his face even when his students disappointed him. Which as far as I could tell was the only time he was 'not 100% happy'

Anyone have an e-mail address for him?

hello all, my pc was down for a week. but i am back. I am loving this forum.. don r.- i do see mr koytek at the dental office and he is doing ok. he had a back injury a few years ago that caused to retire early but he is slowly getting better. he says he hasnt played in the band for years and has no interest of ever returning to it..oh and his hair is blonde..and he is still smiling! now on to the next conversation question.. what was your favorite band from the 80's and what was the most memorable concert that u went to? I loved bonjovi and new kids on the block..concert though would be vanilla ice baby with janine A.. he was hot and lipsinced his ass off! cant wait for the answers to this one!

03/17/09 08:32 AM #143

Jacqueline Cosgrove (Durling)

I'm not original at all here with my choice....so 80's! My favorite band was Bon Jovi, still love them. As a teenager, I just loved Jon Bon Jovi. As an adult, I admire him. Any rocker that married his high school sweetheart and is still dedicated to her is very sexy, sexier than the Jon that the teenage me googled over! Unfortunately, I have yet to see them in concert. I had tickets in high school but was in my cousins wedding the same weekend, oh the sacrifices for family. Even sadder is that my first concert was taking my daughter to see The A Teens and Aaron Carter. She loved it.....mom survived it. :)

gina i have to say one word HIPPA. Just kidding now to the greatest band of the 80's Def Leppard stil rocking today a one armed drummer what more can ya say. Lets also go with Winger, and i willl go the other end of the spectrum i always get razzed about Huey Lewis and the NEws. I as very disappointed that the Robert Palmer concert did not include those girls from the video. LOL Really didnt hit the concert scene till college.

Hey Mark! That Robert Palmer concert was at the Kirby Center right after it opened, correct? We all went together didn't we? Syd and his date (ar dit), you, me Greg, Tom, etc.

That was the worst concert ever! I remember they came over and yelled at us for standing up! I thought it was because the Kirby was new, but in retrospect It might have been because both you and I were dancing.

yes that is all correct (ar dit). a bad concert is an understatement donald.

Huey Lewis and the News was my absolute favorite band in the 80s. I remember when "Fore" came out and Grace Anne and I convinced a KRZ DJ to play the whole record the day it was released. I waited for my Dad to get home from work and drive me to the Gallery of Sound to get it. Heather Dawson's Mom and Dad drove us to Binghamton to see him in concert.

I also remember going to King's and Rocky Glen to see the Hooter's. My other 80s fave. The King's show ran late. I didn't get home until after midnight and my Dad was pacing the floor when I walked in the door. He was so mad, but it was worth it.

I saw Bon Jovi a few years ago. I wasn't a big fan in the 80s, but have come to love him. I go to a lot of concerts and that was one of the best shows I have ever seen.

Hey Linda I think you have done a wonderful job. It is great to see that a lot of you folks have stayed in touch. Phil I was glad to see that you had the courage to be the first male to post a message. I am looking forward to seeing all who attend the reunion. It is funny how grown up "old" we all look. It's funny I have always looked older, and when I was younger it was cool and helped me get served. I can honestly say it isn't cool anymore. Anyway I hope you are doing as well as me, for I am better than I deserve. Take care and see you in November.

My musical memories: I also remember going to see The Hooters at Rocky Glen. I think it was with the Avoca softball team. I also remember, very clearly, that Kara Capone's bedroom walls were covered in Menudo posters. And I don't think any of our mothers have gotten over Alisa singing George Michael's "I Want Your Sex" at the top of her lungs as we were being driven home from wherever that evening. The soundtrack to Amy Salerno's pool parties was always Bon Jovi, specifically, "Jump". The swim team had a dance we did in the locker room to a couple of INXS songs junior year. And I remember Phil Pisano bringing over Purple Rain for us to listen to it in Jeanine Capone's basement.

Wow....this site is great!!! I have to pass on this little story. Recently, I had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Curry. His voice will forever be a reminder of PA football games!! Anyway....he said that our class was one of the smartest that ever came out of Pittston Area. We talked for a long time about what everyone is up to. He was really proud of our accomplishments.

Pat - I agree,it was cool to look older in order to get served, now I would love to be carded!

I too remember Kara Capone's obsession with Menudo. Who knew then that the most famous one would be Ricki Martin!

How did the meeting and picture go yesterday? Any updates for the site?

Tony B's line of cars:
Gremlin
'64 Pontiac Bonneville (black)
The Dune Buggy (impounded)
VW Beetle (customized convertable)
'80 Camaro (white)
'84 Mustang LX (engine torn down and fitted with '90 Corvette engine)

after that... i lost touch.

We have to mention Motley Crue, VH, and Ozzy as 80's favorites and still mine to the day.

Sorry i missed the meeting last night, i got delayed in Savanah with thunderstorms. I showed up at 8, but you were all gone already.
Gina are you still on Facebook? I looked for you on there but you seem to be not in my friend list anymore. Or maybe you just unfriended me is all.

Anyone else make it to the Armory to see Vinnie Vincent and Alice Cooper? That was my first concert. Not that it was good, just my first. Not long after that i think Cinderella and Bon Jovi came to town.

Remember when the "Bomb scare" phase was cool? We all would get marched out onto the grass and wait for the folks to search the place. Seemed like it was a weekly occurance there for awhile.

Everyone remember what class they were in when the Shuttle Challenger blew up? I was in Mr Russavage for algebra and he actually let us turn on the TV and watch the takeoff and saw it live.
