In Memory

Warren Whitworth VIEW PROFILE

I think most of you know my brother has been gravely ill for several months.  Warren went home to be with our Lord yesterday, May 31.  How fitting that He called him home on Memorial Day.  Warren was a Vietnam Veteran and was a "boots on the ground" soldier.  The war changed his life forever.  There will be a graveside service at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 3rd, in Forest Park Cemetery, Greenville, TX 75402 in the Pavillion.  Warren will be resting at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville until the service.  There will be no formal visitation but guests are welcome to sign the Memorial book at the funeral home.  Directions to the cemetery can be found by googling Forest Park Cemetery, Greenville, TX.

I remember Warren mainly from scouts - troop 300 - and being at his house near PHS.

Warren, Jarry Davis, Ron Miller and I played in The Dolphins together. I remember playing summer gigs at the Plano Pool and getting paid in free burgers. We all raced around Plano on All State Mopeds and throwing water balloons. Pretty innocent stuff for back then. Rest in peace ole friend.

A sad, sad day with the passing of Warren. I smile when I think of him and his "shenanigans" and all the fun we had in the Southwood section of Plano growing up.

You never really knew what Warren was up to--he had an impish side to him--but he was always true as a friend.

Though I have not seen him for 40 years, I will miss him.

Go gently, friend.

Ginny.

Although Warren and I never crossed paths after high school, recollections of some of our escapades come to mind regularly. There was a certain twinkle of his eye that could disarm  teachers, coaches, parents and even the occasional police officer. Left to my own devices, I would have simply thrown in the towel and accepted my fate. But Warren always seemed to figure a way out of the tight spot where we often seemed to find ourselves, and never abandoned me or threw me under the bus to cover his tracks.

That he was a foot soldier who attained the rank of sergeant does not surprise me. The medals awarded to him are a measure of his accomplishments, but I am willing to wager those who served under him could regale us with stories of his leadership skills and courage in the heat of conflict that would better reflect his character.

Rest well, my friend.
