Daily Herald, August 1, 2013

Lewis Calder Bankhead passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 29, 2013, at his home in Mapleton, Utah. He was born in Provo, Utah, August 20, 1955, to Reid E. and Mary S. Bankhead. He graduated from Provo High School, attended BYU, and served an LDS mission to Uruguay from 1974-76. He married Jann Miller, March 3, 1978, in the Salt Lake Temple, and they are the parents of seven children. Lew and Jann were pleased to return to Uruguay in 2006, where he served as President of the Uruguay Montevideo Oeste Mission.

At a very early age, he and his brother, Tom, founded L&T Construction, and for over 35 years they oversaw the construction of many residential and commercial projects. In the process, they were able to mentor many young people who worked for and with them. Lewis was a gifted man who led a life full of quiet service, leadership, and love. He had great dreams and determinedly pursued them with energy.

He had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and the Book of Mormon. He served faithfully in many callings in the LDS Church including Mission President, Bishop, MTC branch presidency, high councilor, YM advisor, gospel doctrine teacher, Sunday School President, and ordinance worker in the Provo Temple.

He developed and maintained many strong and enduring friendships, and had a special way of getting people together. He maintained a lifelong desire to learn. He loved horses, spending time with his family, reading, biking, mowing his lawn, and "tending the north 40".

Lewis always felt that his greatest treasure was his relationship with his wife "Jannie" and his children. He is survived by his wife Jann, and children Justin (Courtney), Ashley Dickerson (Dustin), Brittany Allred (Brett), Courtney, Jaime Macdonald (Scott), and Calley; seven grandchildren; brothers, sisters, and their spouses: Doug and Susan Morrison, Steven, Laurie Swim (Gaylord Swim, dec.), Lisa Clark (David Clark, dec.), Tom and Michelle Bankhead, and Darrel and Tami Jensen. He was preceded in death by his son, Cody, his brother John, and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at the Mapleton Stake Center, 970 North 400 East, Mapleton, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 3, 2013. A viewing will be held at the Stake Center on Friday, August 2, 2013, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and on Saturday August 3, 2013 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Interment will be in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the LDS Missionary Fund. Condolences may be sent to lewiscbankhead@gmail.com. Funeral arrangements by Berg Mortuary of Provo.
