ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dear Class of 1973,

The Class of 1973 held its 50th reunion last year.  As we planned for that reunion, we had a strong feeling that we did not only want to remember the past, but we also wanted to leave something good behind that could hopefully change the future.

We decided to challenge our class to raise funds so that we could offer two Scholarships to the Provo High 2023 graduating senior class.

But we wanted to do this in a unique way. We worked with the Provo High Staff to come up with a scholarship format to do something special.  We wanted this to be a scholarship that was initiated by the Students at the School.

The Sophomores and Juniors at Provo High were given the opportunity to nominate a Senior Classmate that they felt influenced them in a positive way. A student that they felt reflected and inspired others by living the School goals of Inclusion, Excellence, and Integrity.  A student that had a significant need for help.

We received 30 nominations and out of those 30 we narrowed it down and asked 10 students if they would like to apply.  They were asked to write an essay for the Class of 73 Scholarship.

Last year we were able to award two $5000 Scholarships to two very special young women.  After our reunion our class members were so impressed and excited by these two Students that many asked if they could help provide scholarship’s again this year.

With that encouragement the class of 73 again worked together to raise funds so we could award two more scholarships to the graduating class of 2024.

I am excited to report that we were able to raise an additional $5000.

Provo High School held its awards night on May 15, 2024, and we were able to award two $2,500 scholarships.  One of the Scholarship winners lives with his single mother who works two jobs to support them.  The other young man’s father has cancer and is unable to work.  His mother is currently out of work.

Because of your generosity we have been able to change the future for two additional young Provo High Seniors.

The Class of 73 also issued a challenge last year to the Class of 74.  The class of 74 took on that Challenge and raised $5000.  We are excited to announce that they also awarded two $2,500 Scholarships.

Together the Class of 73 and 74 were able to award $10,000 in Scholarships in 2024 for a total of $20,000 in Scholarships given out to the last two graduating classes.

The Class of 73 and 74 have already issued a Challenge to the Class of 75.  We hope that we have started a tradition of Scholarships for Provo High students that will carry on for many years.

Thank you all so much for your support.  As a class we continue to try and change the future for good.

Robert Hammond
