Bryce J Christensen was born in Mount Pleasant, Utah to William J Christensen and Hazel JoAnn Johansen 66 years ago. He earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English at BYU and a Doctorate of English Literature at Marquette University. He married the love of his life, Mary Cox in 1977.
Bryce's first priorities in life were his faith and his family. His most treasured moments were those spent with wife, sons, and grandchildren. He was an exemplary husband and father who always honored his wife and made sure to dedicate time with his children. Bryce was also nationally recognized as an advocate for the family in society having been the first editor of Family in America, now part of the International Organization for the Family, and having been invited to address national and government audiences on the importance of strengthening families. He had an abiding love of nature, language, poetry, literature, and all things beautiful. He was a poet and author with many poems and several books selected for publication. He was a Professor at Southern Utah University teaching English and Literature. During his time at SUU, he served as the English Department Chair and was honored with selection for a Fulbright Fellowship teaching American Literature at National Taiwan University. In addition, Bryce served as a volunteer advisor for various activities at Cedar High School and wrote reviews for the Orchestra of Southern Utah.
Bryce was absolutely devoted to his faith in Jesus Christ. His faith was shaped by two years of missionary service for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Rochester, New York and continued growing throughout his life. His Priesthood responsibilities also included serving as a Bishop and as a Counselor in two Stake Presidencies. He loved teaching Gospel Doctrine and most recently served as an Instructor in his ward Elders Quorum.
Bryce is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Cox Christensen, his three sons Matthew, Cameron, and Carl and their spouses, Jessica, Katie, and Debbie, and seven grandchildren.
