
QUANAH – Carolyn Kay Phillips Cate, 64, of Haslet, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 in Haslet. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Holder officiating. Interment will follow at Quanah Memorial Park under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Quanah.
Cate was born Nov. 23, 1950 to the late Jack Phillips and Evelyn Phillips in Quanah. She married William Cate on May 6, 1995 in Lubbock. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She attended Southwestern State University in Weatherford, Okla., receiving a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development. Later she received a Master’s Degree from Arizona State in home economics. She was the extension agent in Phoenix, Ariz., and operated Graves Drug in Marlow, Okla.
She is survived by her husband, William Cate of Haslet; her mother, Evelyn Phillips of Quanah; three daughters, Caroline Khristine Akers Peterson of Frisco, Danielle Cathleen Blessing of Fort Worth, and Jacqueline Michelle Akers Buitron of Fort Worth; two stepsons, Burton Patterson Cate of Syracuse, Utah, and Todd Aaron Cate of Syracuse, Utah, and two brothers, Jerry Phillips of Lubbock and James (Mackie) Phillips of Lubbock.
