Thanks, Sheila.  Glad you're safe.  Watching the pictures of such incredible devestation, and thinking about the people who have basically lost everything is heart breaking. I hope they get all the help they need.  Communities around me and elsewhere are sending supplies which will help, but never make up for what has happened to them mentally and physically.

And now another to worry about.  Our community just issued this:

Tropical Depression 14 is currently located off the east coast of Mexico.  Projections have it moving to the east while gaining strength and becoming a Hurricane.  Projections show that it will make landfall sometime on Wednesday.  As we all know these storms can be unpredictable.  This storm could possibly start having an impact on our area as early as Tuesday.

Well in about 12 hours Milton will pass right over our home in Riverstrand. [Bradenton] Fortunately we are not there. We followed Helene to Atlanta for our daughters birthday. But we are still very anxious for our home and our friends who stayed. We will return ASAP and just don't know what we will find. We are licensed builders in Florida. [Anderson Tisdell Building and Development, LLC]  But the real issue is finding material and licensed and capable subcontractors with enough compitent trades people to complete the work at hand.

Hurricane Milton - this is some scary stuff.  We have 28 classmates living in Florida, and I don't know how many others (like myself) have second homes there.  Mikey, just saw pictures of the storm already lapping at your shores in Key West.  I know you're not in the direct path, but I know you're in for a storm surge and flooding anyway.  I have friends in Ft. Meyers who evacuated inland.  They already went through Ian and I hope that devestating storm that they're just recovering from doesn't repeat itself.  Our house is located between Tampa and Sarasota, so I'm expecting the worse.  Although we're on a Bayou, the water is well over ten feet from our house, so flooding probably won't be and issue.  Wind damage?  Most likely.  I hope everyone stays safe.

Jerry, glad you're safely away.  We are still in Quincy, but my sister is there.  I had hoped she'd go to a shelter, but she's opted to camp out at our house (with her three cats), which maybe a little sturdier than hers, but who knows?

What a horrific storm.  So much damage.  Hugh impact to most of Florida.

Hope everyone and their loved ones are safe, and for those who evacuated, I hope your home is ok.

My sister stayed at our house last night, because she felt it was sturdier than hers.  Said it was really scary being alone and in the dark with the wind howling and blowing against the house.  Fortunately, she's ok and our house had no damage.  Power out and some street flooding.  She saw a lanai gone from neighbor's house.  She's heading over to check on her house  and see how the neighborhood fared.

Bottom row:  Paula Palesse Constantine, Donna Smith MacLean, Jean Meyer, Phyllis Giove Backstrom and Carol Swirbalus.

Paula wrote on the back of this picture:  Diane, Cheer up!  Things are not as bad as all that!!

We had fun times when we were young and we are all together still.  On another note my granddaughter had to evacuate Tampa where she goes to college.  She went to a friends house in Gainesville 120 miles away and it took her 7 hours to get there, thankfully she got there safe.  She is not sure when she can go back to her apartment in Tampa.  I feel so bad for all the people who lost their homes, Florida has had enough.

Haaarp,,,is playing hijinks with the weather and lazers. I have never seen weather like this and I have been through lots of hurricanes over the years. Its not nice to fool with mother nature.

Filliss sorry about getting your name wrong. Its always right when I think it. Old age brought me into the "sounds like" erra, and deminishing "loft ware" doesn't help either. I actually can never get my brother Fillup right either cool.I have always known my brother as the "Nabisco Kid." We ran his DNA and it came bac that he was related to shredded wheat  No personality. devil

We have no power at the house yet, and the only gas is at Costco with a three our wait. This is what happens  when everyone panics and fills the tanks, then they return with empy tanks and fill them up again. Its sort of like a run on the banks, but now the banks are the gas stations. Now there are issues with Manatee county utilities across the board. Water and sewage.

I thought this was amazing and very interesting:

An effort to revitalize marine species and improve water quality now has a home in Boston Harbor.

The first two "living seawalls" in North America were recently installed on existing seawalls in East Boston and the Seaport. The panels have different textures and shapes to help house snails, mussels and underwater plants thrive.

"Slowly but surely, we've seen species come back, we've seen the environment improve," said Rep. Adrian Madaro. "While this is a pilot, I think the future is really bright and the possibilities are endless for what we can do to protect our environment and to bring back these native species that do so much for our ecology."

The initiative hopes to "turn gray infrastructure more green" and was a 2021 Finalist for the Earthshot Prize, sponsored by Prince William and Princess Kate.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Johnnie Chaisson.  John was a great guy and a great classmate.  We had a lot of good times in the Atlantic and NQ gyms every day after school with our fellow gymnasts.  John was one of the original members of our "NQHS Class of 64" luncheon group and always had a few funny stories to tell every time.  Unfortunately, he had to miss the past few luncheons due to his illness.

I have been informed by his dear friend, Ed Leahy, there will be no public services at this time.  The family will plan to have a "Celebration of Life" at a future date this summer.

RIP, buddy.

Hi Everybody,

I just want to bring you up-to-date on an event our own Joe Boyd has put together as a follow-on to the very successful Oldies party held in May, 2022 at the Elks.

On Saturday, May 17 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Joe will host another Oldies Party at the Elks, 254 Quarry Street, Quincy, in Quarry Hall. All you have to do is show up, pay $15 at the door, and you're in!  There'll be plenty of food, music, and friends for a memorable afternoon.  Attendees will be NQHS graduates for the 60s and 70s.  In other words, a great crowd!

So put it in your calendar and plan to join a bunch of old friends from our high school days.  Hope to see you there!

All the best,

Tom
