Alice Pearl Blalock (Vance) - Class Of 1940

Funeral services for Alice Pearl Blalock Vance, 90, of Quitman are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2014, Myrtle Springs Baptist Church, Quitman, with Bro. Heith Mitchell and Mark Van Vessem officiating.  Burial will follow in Myrtle Springs Cemetery.

Alice Pearl was a fifth generation resident of Wood County, descending from four pioneer Wood County families.  She was worn May 26, 1924, on the family farm, attended Cana School and graduated from Quitman High School in 1940.  After graduation she attended East Texas State Teachers College for one year and then worked during World War II a the Red River Arsenal.

In 1944 she married Stanley Vance and they celebrated 56 years of marriage before he died in 2001.  She is survived by sons, Ronnie Vance (Nan), Quitman and Tom Vance, Minneapolis, Minn; daughters Nancy Byrd, Dallas and Patti Maxwell (Joe) , Tyler.  Also surviving is a stepson, Kenneth Vance (Lynn), Mesquite; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patricia Blalock, Duncanville; and several nephews and nieces.
