Martha Ross (Brewer) - Class Of 1945

Martha Lee Ross Bridges Brewer

A celebration service for Martha Bridges Brewer will be held at First Baptist Church, Quitman, on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 1 p.m.

On November 16, 1927, Martha Lee was born to Kelcie and Mildred Ross.  A Yantis native, she began working at the Wood County Courthouse after graduating from Quitman High School.

She married Clarence Bridges on January 16, 1950.  They enjoyed 31 years of marriage until his passing in 1981.  She married Charles Brewer in 1996.  Both men enriched her life as she did theirs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; her husband, Clarence; and son-in-law, Ron Baker.

Martha is survived by her husband, Charles; daughter, Becky Baker; and son, Lanny and wife, Dawn, all of Tyler.  She was blessed with six grandchildren.  Martha is also survived by three siblings, Kieffer Ross, of Pottsboro, June Garmon, of Miller Grove and Anna Bradt, of Lake Dallas.

Martha had a rich heritage of Southern gospel music, and the Ross family sang often in the area.  After retiring in 1992, Martha made time for volunteering at the local hospital as a "pink lady", was involved with the Pilot Club and played the piano for Sunday services a The Heritage for many years.  She dearly loved being surrounded by her family.  A homemaker at heart, she found quiet pleasure in sewing and cooking.  She will be remembered as the Martha who served Jesus, as a selfless servant in ministry to others.  The family would like to thank the many physicians, nurses and caregivers who showed compassion and care for our sweet Mom, wife and Nanny.
