Obituary

James (Jim) Howard “Peanut” Reed of Golden, Texas, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at the age of 84 in Tyler, Texas. He was a 1953 graduate of Quitman High School. Jim retired in 1977 after a 23-year career in the United States Air Force, and then retired again in 1998 following a 20 year career with Precinct 1, Wood County. He loved working with young people; he served many years as Boy Scout Leader, Church Youth Director, and hosted several exchange students and young men from the Air Force in his home. Jim was a member at Pilgrim Rest #2 Baptist Church where he was a deacon and taught the men’s Sunday School Class. After retiring from the Air Force, Jim resided in Alba, TX, until moving to Brookdale Tyler South Dementia/Alzheimer Care in mid-2018. While there he was greatly cared for and loved by a wonderful staff, as well as nurses and Chaplains with both Solaris Hospice, and Hospice of East Texas, also in Tyler.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Stella Sue Patrick Reed, his parents, Clifton “Skipper” Reed, and Alta, of Quitman, and his Air Force “Sons,” Samuel Pittman, of Hattiesburg, MS and Little Joe of Michigan. 
Jim is survived by son, James Patrick Reed, of Seagoville, daughter and son-in-law, Joy Reed Parker and Roy, of Alba, 4 grandchildren, Toni Reed Wiley and husband, Jason, of Emory, Ricky Brian Ramirez of Mineola, Brandy Reed Butler and husband, Charles, of Ovilla, and Melissa James Taylor and husband, Jai, of Alba; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Glynn Reed and wife, Jane, of Mineola, his sister, Margaret Reed Glosup, of Quitman, brother-in-law Mike Patrick and wife, Shirley, of Alba, sister-in-law, Sandy Patrick Collins, of Golden, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by exchange student daughters, Yolanda Gonzales Lyles and husband, Scotty, of Emory, Carolina del Cid Sagastume of Guatemala, Chiqui del Cid Menegazzo and husband, Fernando, of Guatemala, Naomi Kakuda, of Japan, and Air Force son, Larry Whitney and wife, Cathy, of Rockwall.
Family will be receiving visitors at Beaty Funeral Home, 5396 S. Hwy. 37, Mineola, TX, on Monday, August 19, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with funeral services being held at Pilgrim Rest #2 Baptist Church, Alba, TX, on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at 10:00 a.m.
