The following is a letter written by Donald shortly before the QHS Class of 1956 held a luncheon prior to the 2014 All School Reunion; it is dated Sept 9, 2014:
Dear Fellow Students & Friends,
We are blessed to have lived for another class reunion. My soul is sorrowed for dearly departed souls of our class and the U.S. Military who defend our country.
I was given a good education at QHS. Although I wasn't a straight A student, I was around a lot of students who were, and they showed love and help.
Life has its sorrows and pitfalls, but with the help of Christians and Christ we can overcome those difficulties.
I do every single thing I can to better a situation. My ancestors were great, and my elders were great ... so why not I. I remember Johnny Frank Smart, Lamar Shamburger, J. D. Goolsby, Kelly Bruce, Claude Bruce and all my teachers. They were all an inspiration ... were stict ... but showed love and taught us.
