Bill Herring - Class Of 1957

Billy Ray Herring 1939-2021

Bill Herring, my blue-eyed, handsome husband for 59 years – rancher, fisherman, hunter, hardworking, drag racing, basketball playing, animal loving, people loving, big hearted man – passed peacefully over to the Distant Shore Friday, June 18, 2021, with our dear son John holding one hand and I holding the other. Per his wishes, we will have a private service at the farm when our US Marine Tobie Herring can arrange leave from Camp Pendleton, and his ashes will be scattered there on the land that he loved, the land that was his heart and soul.

Bill was my hero, my calming force, my biggest supporter, my greatest critic, my soul mate, and the true love of my life.

I already miss his quick wit, his dirty work clothes wet with sweat, and his beautiful, clear blue Herring eyes that were fringed with those gorgeous thick, long eyelashes. We lived and loved and laughed and cried together for 59 years – 50 of those years right here in this home on Lance Road we built in 1971. Life is not going to be nearly as much fun without my blue-eyed handsome man!

I am good and at peace with the loss of my better half and am confident that we will be together throughout eternity.

Billy Ray Herring was born March 6, 1939 in Quitman, grew up in the Clover Hill Community, attended Quitman ISD and was a member of the Class of 1957, attended TJC,  and worked in the engineering department of Murray Gin until he began a 35-year postal service career in 1960 in Dallas.

Billy Ray was the son of Tobie and Lois Pollard Herring.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Jane; a daughter, Susan Phillips; a son and wife, John and Lindsey Herring; and three grandchildren, Tobie and Elizabeth Herring and Millie Jordan.
