Imogene McCreight (Terry) - Class Of 1936

Services for Imogene M. Fitzgerald Terry, 95, of Kilgore were held on July 8, 2015 at Radar Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Duggins officiating.  Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler.

Mrs Terry died Monday July 6, 2015, in Longview.

Imogene McCreight was born February 9, 1920, the youngest and last surviving child of William Matthew McCreight and only child of Susan Irene Caldwell McCreight, on the family farm north of Quitman.

After attending rural Cana school through nine grades, she rode one of the first school buses for two years, graduating in 1936 from Quitman High School.  By attending summer classes, she graduated in 1939 with bachelor of arts degree with majors in English and business administration from East Texas State University (A&M Commerce).

Following four years of high school teaching, she returned to Quitman where she worked for Shell Oil Co. for two years.  Then following World War II, she moved to Tyler and after working several months with Delta Drilling Co., she did similar office work for Humble Oil and Refining Co. there, completing 20 years in the oil industry.

The family lived in Abilene two years and Crane eight years prior to her husband's retirement from Exxon Mobil to Carthage.  After his death she returned to Tyler, where she lived until 1999 when she moved to Kilgore to be near her daughter's family.

She enjoyed travel and researching family history in most of the southern states, after which she published three family histories.  She was a life member of the ETGS, Tyler.  Imogene was a member of Forest Home Baptist Church, Kilgore and previously of Green Acres Baptist Church, Tyler.

Imogene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 20 years, Milton David Fitzgerald, and her husband of 11 years, Homer Lee Terry; five half brothers; and five half sisters.

Mrs. Terry is survived by her daughter, Kathy Nail and her husband Kenny, of Kilgore; grand daughters, Katy Rodriguez and her husband James, of Fort Worth, Kelly Nail, of College Station; stepdaughter Brenda T. Hahn, of San Diego, California; stepson, Mason L. Terry and his wife Marty, of Austin; four stepgrandchildren.
