RACINE – Charlotte S. (nee: Hall) Ritter, 46, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2006, after a brave fight with cancer. Charlotte was born in Madison on January 24, 1960, to Robert F. and the late Suzanne M. (nee: Spurgat) Hall of Racine. She wed her beloved and devoted husband, Matthew Ritter of Racine/Pewaukee on August 15, 1998. They met while playing volleyball in a Racine Unified Teachers League and found they shared a passion for teaching and helping children learn. Charlotte graduated from Washington Park High School in 1978, while she also attended University of Wisconsin-Parkside for college credits. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business from University of Wisconsin-Parkside in 1983. She explored different career options before deciding to pursue a career in teaching. In teaching, she discovered a rewarding profession, graduating in 1993 from University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Carthage College with a Degree in Education. Charlotte substitute taught for several years in the Racine Unified School District, before starting full-time at Starbuck Middle School for five years. She then went to Washington Park High School as a Special Education Teacher, where she taught for five more years. Charlotte enjoyed all aspects of life. In junior high school, Char played lead characters in several productions of plays and musicals. In high school, she played on various basketball, tennis and volleyball teams. Char was at the accelerated level in high school, being named several years in a row to All-City Scholastic Athletic Teams. She also played tennis at University of Wisconsin-Parkside. She enjoyed playing Racine City League softball and volleyball during the 1980’s and 1990’s with her sisters, Liz and Carrie; sometimes her father would coach the teams. She had a lifelong love for cooking and entertaining, hosting many family holidays. Char was an avid Elvis fan, enjoying many of his Las Vegas, Nev. Shows. She later enjoyed a variety of other music, attending a wide spectrum on concerts throughout her life. She had adventures in traveling in France, Spain, Morocco, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. Char always had a great eye for art and design, creating and selling her knitting and sewing projects at art shows accompanied by her knitting partner and mother-in-law, Judy Ritter. Charlotte also collected art glass and ceramics. She adored spoiling her dogs, Dexter and Missy. Charlotte had a generous, fun, caring, and creative spirit by all who knew her. Survivors include her husband, Matthew; her father, Robert F. Hall; her two sisters, Elizabeth (Donald) Caldwell of Milwaukee, Carrie Hall of Racine; brother, Major Bradley Hall of Jonesboro, Ark.; her grandmother, Evelyn Spurgat of Racine; her aunts, Jane (Jay) Voss of Racine, Sally Spurgat (special friend, Luis Huerta) of Racine; uncle, David (Dorothy) Spurgat of Whitewater; her nephew, Aaron Hall of Tomah; her niece, Abby Hall of Tomah. She will be missed by the entire Ritter family as well as numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Suzanne M. (nee: Spurgat) Hall; and grandfather, Emil Spurgat. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 22, 2006, at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow. Family and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday, July 22, 2006, from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations for Charlotte Ritter be given to: The Oncology Alliance fund, Attention: Sue Powers, 4655 North Port Washington Road, Glendale, Wis. 53212; or memorials to the family have been suggested for a Charlotte S. Ritter Educational Scholarship Fund to be established. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the caregivers at the Oncology Alliance of Wisconsin and Dr. Michael Mullane and his wonderful staff, as well as Enoc and Jackie of Wheaton Franciscan Services/Covenant Healthcare Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. The family would like to thank Dottie Bing-Kowbel, Dave Kowbel, Butch and Marlene Chekanoff, and Susan Whorley, along with many other close friends for their help and compassion through Char’s fight with cancer.

So sorry to hear of Char's passing. She was truly a gentle giant. The biggest Elvis fan ever!

Char was my tennis partner on the Park team for two years. She was the tallest and I was the shortest. Good Times! Sorry to hear about her death.
