After graduating from Broughton in June 1961, I attended Peace College. In August of that year I met Franklin Hall on a blind date & we got married on Dec. 22, 1961. I finished out that year with a Business Degree. Went to work with the NC Department of Justice, Probation Department, & then transferred to SBI for several years. We will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary this year too!!!
In 1968 our son, Stuart, was born & two years later a daughter, Christy, came along. I was a stay-at-home Mom from 1968 until 1976 when I went to work for Wake County Public School System at Rolesville Elementary, later transferring to Wake Forest-Rolesville High School where I helped with many a graduation and class reunions. At the time Wake Forest was a small community and I felt like I knew everyone who came in the doors. It was a great place to be and to raise my children. In 1999 I transferred to Durant Road Middle School, retiring in 2004, but have continued to work at DRMS parttime.
We have five grandchildren – Dylan (20)-a Junior at UNC-Charlotte , Bryce (17)-a senior at WF-R HS , Riley (13)-a 7th grader at Heritage Middle – these are our son’s children (all girls); and our daughter’s children are Landon (11)-5th grader at Sanford Creek Elem., and Meredith (9)-a 3rd grader at Sanford Creek Elem. They are involved in soccer, baseball, basketball, swimming, dance, piano & church. We love being grandparents!!
Since I love to travel I have had the opportunity to chaperone on many trips including Scotland, England, France, Greece, Italy & Ireland. Also, Franklin & I have taken several cruises to Hawaii, Alaska, Western Caribbean, & traveled to several states. We are active in our church, Rolesville Baptist, and held many positions. I enjoy walking, reading and traveling.
I am looking forward to seeing old acquaintances. It is always a pleasure and a surprise to see former classmates at the mall, out to dinner because Raleigh has grown so much. I have been back to Broughton several times for school functions – basketball and football games, contests. It is still the outstanding school of Raleigh. What a mighty fortress it still is sitting on the hill. – go CAPS!!!
What I learned since Broughton – Be the best that you can be. God will transform your life.
