I attended Sherry's memorial service yesterday.  Compassionate, generous, and determined were just a few of the words used to describe her.  She had a big heart and fought for those less fortunate than she.  A dear friend since elementary school, Sherry touched many lives.  Such a decent and gracious lady.

Oh this is sad news to me. I knew Sherry for many many years in the sixties. We were on the junior bowling league at Western Lanes for many years. Our parents we're good friends also for many years. I have many fond memories with Sherry of going to bowling tournaments just hanging out and being friends. I'll always remember admiring her for being tall and elegant and just a real kind person. Just an outstanding person in my life 😊

I also attended Sherry Mincey Poole's funeral.   I was surprised that there were not more NBHS classmates there.  They showed pictures of her when she was younger up to an adult with her children.  Sherry was a beautiful person inside and out.  She was tall, like me, and she gave so much to the community she was a part of.  I had no idea she received her master's degree at Meredith (after graduating from N.C. State) and she was well liked by her peers.  She taught English and several of her students got up and said how she helped them change their lives and for that they were all very thankful.  I knew her when I was in elementary school, not so much when I was in high school.  I did not know she had cancer for the past 8 years.  I wish I had been more a part of her life in later years.  I have my fond memories of living on Brooks Avenue and hanging out with her up at Fred A. Olds Elementary school, the Rose Garden, etc., then moving to Hillcrest where I became friends iwth Nicola Longmire, Sheryl Moore, etc.   That was a fun neighborhood to grow up in!  But that is another story...  Sherry you will be missed but not forgotten.
