Vickie Waddell (Riggsbee)

I have lots of good memories of Vic.  He was kind and funny and sometimes, inadvertently funny.  In Mrs. Rosser's junior English class, we read the Scarlet Letter.  Vic argued that Hester Prynne's husband could have been the father of her baby.  Mrs. Rosser patiently explained that the timing didn't add up and that Hester's husband had been "across the pond" when Pearl was conceived.  "I don't care what kind of sexual athlete he might have been, Vic, he couldn't have made that happen across the Atlantic Ocean."  We all exploded in laughter and Vic, good naturedly laughed at himself.  In chorus, the next year, Mrs. Freeman gave him a solo in "One Little Candle" and he did a very good job with it.  When I congratulated him on it, he said he didn't think so.  No matter what I said, he'd shake his head.  At the end of the year, he wrote in my Latipac, "When you remember chorus, please forget 'One Little Candle.'"  I never saw him again after graduation, but I like to remember this gentle guy with an easy smile and a great sense of humor.  Rest In Peace, my friend.
