Cathy sat behind me in Mrs. Griffin's Algebra II class. I had not gone to junior high with most of the kids at Broughton and Cathy was very kind to me. She often would just greet me with the name of a song. One day she told me, "Eli's Comin'"....I had no idea what she was talking about until I heard Three Dog Night's song on WKIX on the way home.
My nephew is named Eli and I adore him. Whenever I know that I'm going to get to see him, I think, "Eli's comin'" and think of Cathy that day. She truly was one of the kindest people I ever met.
I knew Cathy when we were students at Leroy Martin "Junior High". She was one of the WKIX (KIX) correspondents who would call into the radio station with a report on what was happening at school that week. I think it was like a Tuesday or Wednesday night when they would call in. Cathy was a cool person who had a lot of love and life in her. Another bright star in heaven tonight!
Everyone at Cathy's memorial service talked about their fun experiences riding to and at the beach with Cathy. That is what I remember about her--the fun beach trips and how she always carried that surfboard. I don't remember that she surfed, but she did say the board would attract the boys. And, she was right! Her daughters attended Broughton, and there were many of their Broughton friends and their parents at Cathy's service.
Cathy Pearl. My friend in high school, who amazed me with her energy and her free spirit, in college the adventures continued, back in Raleigh, she brought me to Park Avenue and a time that was a whole other perspective to Cameron Park and the soul of Raleigh. What a force she was.
wow, cool stories yep Pearl was so cool, we partied many many times and it is good to see all these positive loving comments, I have missed somereunions, and since I moved to another country in 94 and back and forth I havebeen out of some loop until my surprise years later meeting her daughter Chelsea who is BFz w Jane Worth Jonathan's daughter I have had a balst with them a few times as I came back to raleigh some to see old friends and do some work after Mom died in 2012, and yes she surfed and I guess I was the fault on that one,
she and some others came to visit me at our summer houseds in Wrightsville a few times
