Sarah Ann Story Dear
Sarah Ann Story Dear passed away quietly in her home on Saturday, October 16, 2010. Sarah was born on June 28, 1962 to parents Doris Queen Story and Clifford Morris Story in Raleigh, NC. She attended Broughton High School, graduated from Sandhills Community College with an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, and received a Certificate of Art History and Architecture from Cambridge University in England. She taught special education students for several years while continuing to pursue her true calling as an artist. She married Arthur Dear in 1995 and together they traveled to and lived in Europe for many years. It was while living in England that Sarah had the opportunity to attend Cambridge University.
Sarah was an accomplished artist having worked in oils, wood engraving, linoleum printing, and acrylics. She was an avid reader of all books but held a special place for mysteries and fantasy novels, cookbooks, and interior design. She was an animal lover and an expert gardener. Her last work of art was the landscape design of her own back yard which incorporated her favorite Japanese maples, a stone wall and pathway, and several species of plants that she favored. She was a devoted friend, a much beloved wife, and a caring neighbor. Although she was a gifted artist, her family and friends were always the most important aspect of her life.
Sarah is survived by her father, Clifford Story of Raleigh, NC; sister, Mary Wells of Charlotte, NC; brother, John Story of Raleigh, NC; niece, Stephanie Wells of Raleigh, NC; loving and devoted husband of nearly 15 years, Arthur Dear of Cary, NC; their two Australian Shepherds, Porter and Doyle; and dozens of friends around the world.
A memorial service will be held for Sarah at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC, on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 2 PM. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CAMP Rescue, Non-Profit Animal Rescue, 333 James Jackson Avenue, Cary, NC, 27513.
