Fred J. Matt died on March 22, 2011 in Wrightsville Beach, NC.  He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and pursued business interests including operating East Carolina Trucks, General Gear & Axle and Smith Chevrolet Jeep.  He later turned to commercial real estate development.  In lieu of flowers, donations were sought for Duke Cancer Institute or Child Advocacy  & Parenting Place in Wilmington.  He was survived by his wife, his mother, and four daughters; a brother, a sister, and five grandchildren.
