This is for my Robbinsdale friends. It's a photo of the intersection of Hawthorne and Tallent from the 50's, after a heavy rain, taken by my Dad. The house on the right-hand side is Bill Sumners; the house on the left side is the boyhood home of the mayor (Steve Allender, though he wasn't born yet). This is about a block south of Meade Street (or Meade River as we used to call it after a rain)

This next four photos are from a couple of years ago, showing how they have fixed the drainage. All this water used to be in street. It's funny how you think this kind of flooding is usual - huge downpour, several feet of water in the street - when you grow up in RC. The houses on the north side of Meade are all gone but this is roughly around Joe Bauer's house (from the old Sioux drive in to the turn for Gibsons and Super Dooper). (The flooding now happens on the west side of Elm between Meade and St Anne, where the improvements stop)

The Emma Carry (photo by Barney Powers). Barney, Marsha (his wife) and I hiked Harney Peak (now Black Elk Peak) about 15 years ago. My dog Emma refused to go up the stairs for the Fire Watch tower (didn't like open steps). So I carried her because we were going to the top. One of my favorite photos. Such a good day, and Emma was such a sweet pup. (Some lucky little kids found some of her fur and thought they had found mountain goat fur)

I will be in Rapid City at some point this summer, but may not be back for the reunion (not sure yet on the time). For those of you in town, leave a message if you want to have lunch and catch up and I'll let you know when I'm back.
The photo is from last summer when I was out in Las Vegas for a few days. I'm sitting in the Star Trek captain's chair. Wearing a red shirt was probably not the best idea

This is about a year after the "then" photo. I posted it because probably about 3 months after that photo, I had gone completely white. You can't even see my eyebrows anymore. Give me a beard and a red coat and I could be Santa

Last winter, I did something I always wanted to do when I was growing up . . . stay at the Alex Johnson. My parents met in 1945 at the Alex Johnson (my Mom was out for her 22nd birthday, and my Dad was out of the Army and back in RC)

You can see the neon Cattleman's sign. My grandfather had been a cattleman, and when he retired to RC, he ran a little business out of that building.
