I took my own sweet time graduating from UC Berkeley and enjoyed every minute of it. Berkeley in the '60s -- center of the universe. Then the culture shock of moving to Hawaii and finding that things there moved at a considerably different pace. Back to the mainland and a temporary job with the Contra Costa County Probation Department which turned into 33 soul-killing years, leavened by a side business of consulting and training law enforcement personnel. A lifetime of good and fascinating friends, football road trips following my frustrating Golden Bears, world travel, favorite beaches, good food, tall drinks and high school reunions where we all remember the same things completely differently. I am so pleased that there will be a 55th. At our ages we really can't wait a whole decade between campfires.
What are you doing now?

Very little. Years of chronic back pain, then surgery and continuing rehab, have curtailed my travels, but I'm making plans again. I've spent two decades working on my 1906 bungalow and finding the age-appropriate furniture and other stuff for it. I don't see many people from Red Bluff; Ron Bailey has kept up and Judy Hoff ('64) has been kind enough to share her splendid offspring with me for twenty years -- my virtual kids. I recently joined the facebook page You Know You're from Red Bluff and thoroughly enjoy everybody's recollections. Check it out.

I wish I could be with you -- Syble's family and friends -- today.  I have nothing but fond memories of her, starting in our kindergarten class.  My thoughts are with you.

I am so saddened to hear about Syble's passing.  Most of the time we were in the same class K-8 and a time or two our mothers were co-room mothers.  I was so impressed with the work she did on our reunions, especially the monumental task of finding classmates who had disappeared.  My best to her family.

I remember the radio drama that you and I did for Mr Couse, an original radio broadcast of the Cuban Revolution. We were so creative in those days. Happy birthday, young lady. Hope to see you at the reunion next year. Don't screw up your calendar with nonessential stuff.

Happy birthday, Jean. Do we really have to wait a year and a half for the next reunion? At our age it could be risky, attendance-wise. Maybe we can just pick a date this fall and meet at a bar -- no frills, no planning, no effort.
