Want to hear about another ancient dryer? My mom still has her old (I think Kenmore) dryer from when they got the house back in 1980! Jake just won't let it go, even though they got a new washer a couple of years ago.

Both of ours are Fridgidaire's. The drier had a tension pulley go out on it so that it squeeked and squeeked too loud. This was after about 8 years. I ordered the pulley and replaced it myself, but it only helped for a few months and then went back to squeeking again. So we found a 1 year old Fridgidaire in the classifieds as its replacement. The washing machine has been pretty good. After about the second year (while still under warranty) the transmission for the agitator went out and it got replaced and we have not had a problem with it since. So that one is going on its 11th year in our house.

Ayde has been wanting to get the front loading Maytag's for quite some time. I just mentioned the horror stories from Angie, but that didn't seem to phase her. When women really want something, I don't think they can be dissuaded :)

Brian - I don't think it matters where you end up living. We have had our phase of goofy weather like that down here. One day, I've got a fire in the fireplace; the next day I have to put the AC on.

The thing that I thought was so strange when I first moved down here was that here baseball practices are getting under way, whereas we didn't get into baseball practice up there until April or May. I thought my classmates here were pulling my leg when I was looking to try out for the baseball team and they told me that tryouts were in February. I almost missed the tryouts because I was used to baseball later in the spring.

Lynnette - Good luck on finding a dependable washer. Companies cut corners all the time to cut costs, and things just seem so expendable nowadays. I think my Grandparents were right when they say that they don't make things like they used to.

We used stimulus $$ last year to get a pair of LG front loaders at Home Depot (good sales, floor model, etc.) I looooooooove mine. I do keep the door open on the washer...tight seal won't dry out otherwise. Once in a while I'll toss in some bleach and run the rinse only cycle just to clean it all out, but I haven't had problems with mildew doing those two things.

You can adjust water levels by choosing heavy or light load. The seal leaked once, but that's because Jarod's pocket knife was stuck in the groove and the door couldn't seal tightly.

My favorite aspect of the washer is the sanitary cycle. Kills everything--lice, pinworms, ringworm, viruses--if it's gross, we've had it in the last two years. I do towels and underclothes/socks on that cycle or hot, and the rest on warm. Heck with saving energy. I'm saving on medical bills, plus I'm using less water.

The dryer is a beauty...finishes before the washer every time so I can stay caught up.

If you put 'em on the 2nd floor, look for one that doesn't kick so much on the spin cycle...Bosch has dealt with this problem so I've heard. LG or Bosch were my top picks after all my "research".

If you do get new ones, be nice to yourself and paint your laundry room something funky and hang some pics in there. Mine is dark orange with pics of monarch and other butterflies. Makes laundry fun. :o)

Hello again all. I have been keeping up with reading the postings, however have not had time to respond. It was nice to see that Henry was able to visit some of you recently and I have enjoyed seeing those photos. It is also great to see some new classmates are logging into the website. As we have said many times, this is a great tool that Angie T has created for us, and it is nice to see that it is being utilized.

Lynette and Paul congrats on your son's accomplishments. I actually was looking at your high school website and he has had a great high school career. After also looking at Wofford, seems like that will be a great fit for your family.

Teresa your youtube video was neat to watch over lunch here at work. Those guys did a great job. One of my co-workers was walking by and actually stopped to watch it with me. She was greatly impressed by their dancing skills.

As a brief update for me, my divorce was final in January and things are going very well. Hope to add some new pictures soon.

Take care everyone! Holly

Tere - have to say that even though those guys were kind of goofy in their presentation, it was actually really well-choreographed.

Holly - since you're in Lititz now, we should try to get together for lunch sometime. I called Chris Esh a couple of nights ago but I haven't heard back from him yet - I'm going to try and call him again either tonight or tomorrow. If it turns out he and I get together, maybe we could all do lunch or something.

To anybody interested in seeing the rest of the pictures I took from my trip, here's the link:

Just click on a folder to view the pictures - if you like any of them and want to use them as desktop wallpaper or anything, please feel free to save them - one of the things I like about Photobucket (apart from the ads, which I don't) is that you can save them in 1024 x 768 format - for free!

(Sorry they aren't in order or labeled yet - I'll get to that part soon - I just wanted to get them uploaded while I have the bandwidth available - gotta love free wi-fi!)

Tomorrow I'm having dinner with Tani and Rick again, and am looking very forward to it.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Nothing like waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to get back to sleep right away...but at least it gives one the opportunity to post.

Dinner with Tani and Rick was great, as expected - thanks again for having me over, Tani!

Work has picked up, and I've become the OT donut packin' fool...gotta save up the dough for going back to school next year.

Rhyne McCormick is playing at the Market Cross Pub in Carlisle on Saturday at 8pm, for those who may live anywhere near.

Lastly, anybody up for another Bing's/JP Edwards run? It's been a while.

Hope everybody's well...take care!
Henry

I'm up for another get together. I know my kids had a blast at Bing's and have asked me when we are going to do it again. I am off every other weekend and work day light on the the other weekend, so I am pretty much open after 5pm. Let me know who's interested and where you want to get together.

Bing's wouldn't be bad, just for the sake of being able to bring everybody's kids along.

I do know that one of my best friend's birthdays is coming up next weekend (the weekend of March 6th), so I'm not sure if I'll be able to then. Moreover, I work this weekend so I know that's out. If I do come up next weekend it would be on Friday though - I'll check to make sure and then post here again later.

Well, I found out that the 6th actually *would* work for me, so I don't know what everybody else's schedule is like, but I'm in if anyone else is.

Hey just want to say hi to everyone, I do read the messages from people every once in a while, but it is usually late at night and don't get a chance to put anything on. Things are very busy here, I help Jim with the FOXPRO Archery every Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. There were a group of guys (and girls too) that we are friends with that started an indoor 3D range at FOXPRO (the electronic game calls), this is on 522N in Lewistown. Check out our website, we just got things going with that, so if anyone shoots a bow or would just like to visit (I have the food stand that benefits Rylie's High Intensity Softball team). The website is www.foxproarchery.com, let me know what you think. By the way Jim's hair was the longest I have ever seen it, we since cut it off and stuck in a bag and gave to some of the other guys on the shooting staff, Jim called it his locks of love. I will try to checkinig this a little better, in case there is a get together??? Also, for anyone that has my email at work, I can only email and recive inside the hospital.
HAVE A GOOD ONE!

Hey everyone, just checking again to see if anybody would like to get together on the 6th at Bing's...just post here if you're interested...

Have a good week everybody!

I would like to get together at Bing's (or some other kid-friendly place). My wife has an event at the church on Friday evening, so it's going to be a guys night at the Herbertson household.

Brian H. - good to see you and the kids again at Bing's - the idea about a cookout-type thing somewhere is a good one, maybe somebody can think of a time and place closer to summer where we could do that.

Have a good weekend everyone,
Henry

So how did I miss a whole month's worth of posts?!? I just realized while glancing through the message forum that I missed Kathy Jo's post and all the posts about Anthony's school pick (yay Anth for being smart about it) and everyone buy and selling and moving and whining about the cold and Henry's aunt passing away...Henry, I'm so sorry!

Okay, so I can't say too much about whining about the cold...that's exactly what I did at Christmas! In fact, this was the first trip North where I whined about something besides wanting to move back "home."

Nikki K., FIVE kids? I think you win the prize. I would love to hear your homeschooling stories. I have homeschooled some of mine off and on, though next year they will ALL be our great little school system at the SAME time and I will be a *FREE* woman with all this *FREE* time on my hands. I am soooo looking forward to this first ever opportunity. And my kids go back to school August 7, that's even more lovely. :o)

I just checked the weather for Guatemala City and it's sunny and near 80's. Woo-hoo! I am so going there on the 25th for a missions trip and am going to soak up those toasty rays. I'll be thinking about y'all. No, seriously, I would appreciate your prayers--for safety, for God moments, for forged relationships with the people there. Also that all our little micro-industry classes will go well. We are taking 3 more sewing machines and conducting 4 sewing classes with all 16 gals that have one now. And this trip we are adding a cake decorating class, making homemade ice cream to sell in the streets, and taking carpentry and mechanic tools for six guys. I have a photographer going to document the whole trip on film, so I'll post some when we get back.

Better get back to project prep...starting to feel that deadline crunch...must also clean house before mother-in-law comes!!!! :o)

Yeah, I'm back too now. But, I have been goofing off catching up with a bunch of cousins and relatives via internet so that has been fun. I'm doing laundry right now. For all of my search for a new W & D, I received 2 sets and after I discovered Lowes workers in my house illegally, I reported them, and we made Lowes come the next week to pick up the set since the 2nd new dryer still didn't work. So Paul reinstalled the old dryer that still had a little life, and then messed with the washer to repair it. So, those will hopefully last until we move to the next house. Gotta love the old old maytags....but with all the laundry, I was really loving stuffing the new one that got returned. I'll have to catch up on the backlog of posts here! My sister was begging me to link up on internet with her and family members, and so I've been there and on the computer wayyy too much now lately.

Glad to hear some people getting back on the message board in here. Lately, I've been working my butt off getting things fixed up around our house in the hopes of getting it on the market by the end of March. As of now, we haven't found a place we want to move in to yet, but I guess that will work itself out in the end.

Also, yesterday, Ayde became a US Citizen. That now brings an end to our 15 year fight with Immigration. We are very happy about that.

Basically, I wanted to get all of you to keep a friend of mine in your prayers. He is a friend of mine that lives in Wichita, KS. While they were out on their farm, their 6 year old son climbed up a tree, and their 2 1/2 year old son followed him up. Well, the 2 1/2 year old fell out of the tree, and after a day and a half battle passed away this morning. All I can say is that my worst nightmare is that any harm would ever come to my daughter, and I can't even begin to fathom the depth of their loss. I always read stories like this on the internet, but that always happens to other people. This time it is a story that hits a little closer to home.

Anyway, please pray for his family. Thanks.

Bill--I will keep your friend in my prayers. Like you, I read those kind of stories and hope it would never happen to my family.

If everyone could keep our pastor's family in their prayers. His oldest daughter had her second daughter this past Sunday and unknown to them (even with all the testing out there) she was born with Spina Bifida. She has already had surgery to close her spinal cord, but she has a long road ahead of her. I have had family members with the disoder and currently work with individuals with SB and I know they can live full, rewarding lives.

Lynette--glad to see I'm not the only person with Lowe's horror stories :-( . We bought a floor model fridge and I told them they would have to take the doors off before they could bring it in the house--didn't listen, tore the ice maker, and I got a better fridge for less. Guess it just isn't Mifflin County businesses :-)

Everyone have a great weekend.

Herbie

Lowe's is not my favorite either. We also bought a frig...they sent the floor model, which ended up having uneven doors. I told them when I would be home and came in that time frame, but they didn't wait for me. They allowed a friend of mine who had just pulled in the drive to sign for it and then they left it sitting in the garage. Of course, hubby can install it and fix the doors, but what if he couldn't have? I was not a happy camper. Should've returned it since I ended up hating it, yard saled it, and bought another like my old one...which is AWESOME.

Bill, my condolences to your friends. That is a parent's worse nightmare. I will be praying for them...Brian, also for your pastor's family. Brian Reed, when is your missions trip?

03/25/09 04:48 PM #156

Henry Peachey

It's been a while since I've checked the forum myself, so I see...

Bill W. - sorry to hear about your friend's loss...it's definitely never easy to lose a child - my mom had to go through the same thing with my older brother, whom I never knew because she lost him at three months old.

Brian H. - also sorry to hear about your pastor and what he's having to go through...however, I think advancements in spina bifida treatment have progressed a good deal in the last twenty years, so hopefully it won't be as much of a hardship as it could potentially have been back when we were growing up.

Brian R. and Tere - wishing you safe travels on your respective trips!

And as far as store-bought appliance nightmares go, I'm sure glad I haven't had any - yet! (I'm sure I'll be rueing the day when I get done with school and into a house of my own!)

Take care,
Henry

It looks like I will need some more prayers again. Last night, Arianna went to a birthday party for one of her friends at church. It was a pool party at the YMCA. By the time we got there, it turned out that one of her best friends, Emma, had nearly drowned. She had actually gone to the point of unconsciousness. They were able to revive her and she has spent all last night and all day today in the hospital. Please pray for her speedy and full recovery.

03/30/09 07:42 AM #158

Bill W. - I would like to think that, because they got to her in time and because they were able to resuscitate her, it wasn't her time yet. I will definitely keep her in my thoughts, though.

Bill W...wow, not fun. I am thankful she is okay and will pray as requested.

Speaking of prayer, thanks to all y'all who kept the Guatemala trip in your prayers. we had an awesome trip...I am already looking forward to and planning the September trip.

I've posted pics on Flickr for those who want to see. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ticatere/sets/

Just wanted to let you all know, Mike Murphy's dad died in a boating accident on Sunday. I know Mike's email isn't on here, but his address is if you would like to send him a card or keep him in your prayers.
Thanks!
