Hi Henry,

Bill called and told me that you are coming to Baton Rouge area. I hear you will be here on Jan. 5th. I don't know if you knew that I live in Baton Rouge. So Bill called to see if I wanted to hang out with you and Bill. It will be great to see you on the 5th.

I am going to try to keep in touch with some of you in 2009. I have plans to come to PA the weekend of the 4th of July. I know that is a far away but if anyone wants to get together just contact me. Here is my contact info: phone number 225-772-6119 and my email is reedypng@gmail.com. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Hey Brian R. - it will definitely be muy kewl getting together with you! I can't wait. And be sure to give me a call when you're getting ready to come up - I still have six vacation days left, so I'll see if I can put in for one when you do. (That goes for you, too, Bill W., should you decide to come up!)

Bill W. - It looks like I might be there closer to 8pm now, as I found out sunrise isn't until after 7am and I think I'm going to run here tomorrow morning before I leave (my sister made a valid point in that I'm probably not going to want to run after a 12-hour+ drive - grin).

Tere - hope you and Chuck had a safe trip back, can't wait to see you on Wednesday - I'll give a call soon to make sure everything's still good.

Lynnette - I didn't even think about it but if you need to get hold of me, you could always message me here too, as I plan to check on here from time to time.

Well, gotta run - we're having a cookout here at my sister's! Then I think I'm going to take a dip in the hot tub, finish my packing, go to bed, and head out on the rest of my trek.

Have a great weekend everyone!
Henry

Well, Henry made it down here, and we had a blast. I'm glad that Brian was able to join up with us and that we got to go around both Baton Rouge and New Orleans in just the one day that we had.

Brian, Henry, and I have all posted some pictures from our mini reunion on our pages so feel free to check them out, and I do open up an invitation for anyone who wants to head this way to stop on by. We'll show you around town.

It's true - he is a great tour guide, and he plays a mean guitar if you're up for a quick round or two of Rock Band (grin)! Hanging out with Brian R. was great, too, since it had been ten years since our last reunion, and even then it didn't seem like we had a whole lot of time to really catch up.

At Tere's and Chuck's right now, and then off to Lynnette's and Paul's tomorrow. It's been really great getting to see Tere and Chuck as many times as I got to since the reunion, and it'll be awesome to see Lynnette and Paul since I haven't seen them since high school!

Well, guess I'd better wrap it up...time seems to have a way of getting away from me! It's hard to believe my trip is already halfway over!

Take care everyone!
Henry

Happy New Year!
Sorry I didn't get to visit some people over Christmas!
I did squeak in a brief visit with Wendy at her work bc my aunt volunteers there and picked up the phone and arranged a visit with Wendy. I tried really hard to find time on the 30th, but we had relatives on both sides of the family arrive on sudden short notice that our schedule over those few days was so "back and forth" between houses and hectic, so I couldn't post any official meeting time on the website bc I had no idea of which direction we'd have to go each day. AngT. was generously flexible and patient with me, so I got to see her and Vicki one evening after Vicki got off of work. I talked to Cheryl on Vicki's phone while Cheryl was driving through SC (but I was in PA). KristyD--I did try to call you one day while I was up there; my mom needed a simple cake for my dad's birthday, and so I tried to reach you and your phone was busy forever all day and my mom made me just run with her then to order one. Henry swung by our house this past week after his visit in LA and GA, so we had a nice evening visiting with him.
I figure I need about 2 weeks instead of a few days up in PA if I am to visit all the relatives/ friends/ old neighbors and such!

Right now we are in the midst of figuring out where Anthony wants to go to school the most, where Samantha would like to transfer if she decides to transfer, how to remain on the US mainland with a pending Army transfer for us--hopefully will be near at least one of those 2 while they are in college, how I can finish my classes with a pending move one semester earlier than expected and that one semester shy of me getting a degree and having to transfer credits, again, etc....that's life for now.
Happy New Year 2009---make it a good one! God Bless--

Hey everyone, just wanted to report that I, the now-weary traveler, have arrived home safely.

Bill W., Tere, Brian R., Lynnette and Paul - it was so good to see you all again, and to get to meet/hang out with your respective families. Thank you all for your hospitality - I miss you all already!

I will try and post more photos soon, but for now - I'm beat!

Take care!
Henry

PS In case anybody wants to be grossed out - it's never a good idea to leave even *one* unwashed container in the sink (in the rush to leave, I forgot to wash it) if you're going to be gone for sixteen days, unless you're into trying to grow a new civilization in the meantime!

Henry,

I'm glad to hear that you made it home safely, and that you had a great tour of the South and East US. We definitely had a lot of fun. Oh, and enjoy your chia pet (the one that grew up so fast in your sink) :)

Funny you should mention that...it turns out it had company - my 4-cup coffeemaker had a giftie of its own for me...an old filter with grounds in it...I had washed the pot after I had made some coffee that day but again, in the rush to get out, forgot to take out the old filter. Luckily it was pretty much in a sealed environment so no new civilizations going on there (visible ones, anyway), but a case definitely existed for a nice long soaking in some anti-bacterial dish soap.

Ugh. Further proof that I am getting old! ;P

Well, I'm going to try and get some more sleep - it's one of those "Ha! This is your body speaking...thought you could flip to a daylight schedule and then right back to nights, huh? Don't think so!" times...and only a week left until we actually *do* go back to days...I can only think of how getting up at 4am is going to feel like *then*.

Have a great weekend everyone!
Henry

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year. Sorry I haven't had a chance to post anything, but I have been BUSY. We had a case manager leave in December and the company has decided not to replace her for the time being (not making enough money), so I now have 33 consumers on my caseload and I may be getting 3 more that when I go to visit them would make it an almost 400 mile trip in one day (ARGH!). I don't know about anyone else, but I am ready for spring. I just looked at the temp and it is 5 degrees. My kids are getting cabin fever and I don't like being cold (although I prefer it to being too hot). Hopefully if things slow down an little I will be able to put some new pics in from Christmas.

I have to agree with you on the weather, Brian H. - it's tooooooo COLD! I just looked at The Weather Channel's site and it's saying that where I live it's zero degrees - I'm sure you and everyone else in Mifflin County are in the negatives right now. Everyone at work kept ribbing me, saying I picked a great time to come back from down south, and at this point I really *do* wish I had taken an extra week off! My mom did say that it's even cold in Florida right now, though...I wish this cold snap *would* snap!

(And I don't know about anybody else, but there's something way wrong about having your heat up to 80 degrees and still only having the thermostat read in the 60s inside!)

Speaking of long drives, it's official - I logged over 6000 miles in the sixteen-day span I was off for my travels. I thought I was going to do a lot of driving, but man!

Anyhow, I'd best be off - two more nights at work...everybody keep warm and take care!

Okay, I'm back for now...there have been many little changes around here recently!

Newest news--Anthony signed with Wofford yesterday...posted a new pic of this. While he always kept this school on his list, he had always thought he did not want to go there bc of an impression he had about the crowd there and the small school size...but in the end, he just felt best there. There are some good Christian coaches on the team and players also, and Anthony recognized that. Coach Ayers has always been the ONE coach I would always identify as "a younger Joe Paterno" bc he is a good coach with high expectations of players as young men and not just as players and is a huge motivator like Paterno always had been. We did not really want Anthony to take the preferred-walkon slot at USC and were glad that as he eliminated schools off his list, he felt okay about letting go of playing a big d-1 here in-state bc he was pretty annoyed with USC anyway. Wofford is a 1-aa and had strong academics and great alumni support and job/ school placement. He had some d-1 & d-1aa full-offers and was lucky to be able to think hard about both education and football.

Also, we think we are moving to NC sometime in the future. We requested that we not get sent to Hawaii, and they think they have found another slot for Paul in NC. We are really happy about this. So,now that signing day is settled, my mind gets to get busy with things that need done to put a house up for sale and many other little things for the whole transfer. We expec to move anywhere between Aug.and Oct according to the Hawaii dates we were given originally since that is when Hawaii needs filled thereby emptying out the NC slot at that time.

Yay! I also see we have some new additions of old Kish friends here that have logged in. Yay! Good to be able to say 'hi' through here to everyone!

Oh yeah, while I'm at it, I'll have to laugh about you all complaining it is cold there. You aren't allowed to complain it is cold; you are Northerners! Get over it! As for me, I can...It is quite cold here, and I'm freezing. I am so used to going outside with no hat nor gloves, nor boots, nor snow tires, nor salt or rocks, nor blankets in the car, nor even a winter coat! Well, it is just darn cold here. 2 weeks ago, schools got canceled at 6 pm bc it was projected to snow overnight and they canceled in case. The next morning, the city was shut down bc there was some snow on the ground, but none on the roads. When we did our official visit to Wofford, it was snowing when we left and got home. It rarely snows in Columbia. When we walked out of Signing Day yesterday it was snowing too. Rare snow for rare occasions!! Twice in a month's time!: )

TereSA can't complain that I wrote a book here since I wrote in 3 separate entries now. : ) Hi Tere!

Lynnette,

Signing day is pretty big here in Baton Rouge with LSU trying to sign some of the top recruits here in the south. I had wondered how things would turn out for your son. From how you sound, it appears to be a very good choice. Many kids go for broke and go in to D-1 in the hopes of making their career in the NFL and never really give much thought to the education that they are also receiving. So it is good, that he kept a level head and realized that the education is important in this decision.

Speaking of moving, we are in the process of getting our house ready to sell. This evening after work, I was up on the chimney re-caulking the trim on the chimney. Eventually, I'm going to repaint the siding and trim on the house. We will be looking for a house around here though. We just need to get into a bigger house. So we will look to try to get ours on the market by late March and hopefully we can sell fairly quickly, and have the late Spring early Summer to look for a new one. Fortunately for me, the company I work for is very understaffed in the computer department, and I'm just one of two programmers in our company. So with that being said, I was lucky to be able to push for a raise this year. I guess that is a matter of God having me in the right company to withstand some of the economic pressures that may be facing many others in this country.

Anyway, good luck on your move, and I wish your son the best of luck at Wofford. The pictures definitely show what a happy day it was.

Lynnette - good to see that Anthony finally made his decision and is happy with where he's going to go. I know it was a really big deal, but now hopefully he can take a little time to breathe and enjoy the rest of his senior year before he heads off.

Keep us informed with a page update when you get to NC! That way if there's another chance down the road, perhaps we can get together again.

To everyone whom I mentioned about seeing my aunt in Alabama while on the trip - it turns out she had a heart attack a few days before I got there (which was why she didn't answer her phone), and I was lucky enough to get to see her in the hospital since they had her in a regular room after her stent surgery. Sadly, however, she passed away yesterday. I do want to thank all of you who kept her in your thoughts and prayers and also thank you again for the time I got to spend with you. It was great to see you again after all this time, and even better to know you're still here now.

Take care,
Henry

Hi All. Gee, my first posting... exciting day! Aaaahh, Lynnette, I can and will continue to complain about the cold! We are in the process of buying a townhouse right now which sounds like it fits into what others are doing, too. We currently rent, so don't have to worry about the market and selling. Will hope for the best for those of you selling houses. Back to the cold... my oldest son, Jesse - 16, is currently experiencing a wilderness camp. He lives in a structured tent in the mountains outside of Lock Haven (Bald Eagle)... we are talking outhouse and all. Tents are built by designing it, cutting and debarking trees (by hand) and notching them and using baler twine, dowel pegs... nothing worldly going on there. He's learning a lot about life and social skills to go along with his genius IQ. He's actually home this weekend for a "home visit". It counts as school, but is very hands on. What an impressive organization that he is a part of. Anyway, he amazes me because he has learned how to dress for the weather and is NEVER cold. He NEVER complains. I complain for him, though. I'm glad he enjoys this experience that he wanted for himself. This month, they cut trees (saplings) and built a tee-pee with tarps around it (by the river). They built a fire and put some large rocks in it. When the rocks got hot, they put them in the tee-pee and poured water on them. What a nice sauna. But... first you had to jump into the river. He says you start swimming for shore before you even hit the water! NOW, that's COLD! Tere... is this a book? I got carried away (this being my first entry). Next time I'll give the abbreviated version!

Okay, I promise I won't pick on anyone by saying I'm too cold; but, today it is quite nice--baseball tryouts day is perfect when old moms can go out in just a sweatshirt and jeans and hot-blooded kids can go out in shorts and long-sleeve t-shirt. I think if I stayed out there too long I might have gotten a little sunburn. : )

I was about to ask who is cold. I went out today in shorts and t-shirt. Wonderful weather to do some outdoor activities. It must be due to that darn global warming. Enjoy the weather :)

It actually was quite nice here in Gardners, too - it's supposed to be pretty nice tomorrow as well, which will be good for the trip I'm making to DC with some friends of mine. We're going to hit up the museums and stuff.

Take care!

Poll--
What kind of washing machine do you use?
Is it good, like an old old Maytag or a lemon like the newer ones?
Is it a top-loader or front-loader?
If a front-loader, does it mildew out or cause nasty smells?
Can you tell I'm desperately looking for a new washer and don't like my options since I'm attached to an ancient Maytag and expect every washer to last as long as that one.

My whole fear of the new frontloaders is the mold issue that seems to kick in after a year or so.

02/08/09 11:32 PM #134

Lynnette Gerhart (Carden)

Bill--global warming here too--probably due to my old Maytags.

Angela Treaster (Bubb)

Here's my opinion about washers...
I have a front load washer and dryer, a year and a half old. I've already had the repair man visit twice. The computer went out within a couple of months and the rubber seal leaked within a year. You have to keep the washer door open all of the time when you are not using it so that it doesn't mildew or smell. When you take the clothes out from the washer to the dryer, they fall on the floor when you pull them out. I like that there isn't an agitator and I can put a lot in them, I don't like that you can't soak anything or adjust the water level. The cycles are long too! It seems to take forever to wash a load, a lot of times I use the express wash cycle.
Advice from "Susie Homemaker"! =)
Good luck!
ang

Ok, to put my 2 cents' worth in regarding temperatures and washing machines: I am sick of PA weather. Right now it is 46 degrees outside and I have been running around in a long-sleeve shirt most of the morning after having a hat, gloves and heavy winter coat on early this morning (in the 20's and frost on the ground). They are calling for it to be pushing 60 by mid week but then back into the 40's over the weekend and the 30's next week (can anyone say change of season head cold?!?). My wife keeps saying she wants to move somewhere we can wear sweatshirts most of the year and not have to worry about being too cold.

We have one "ancient" washing machines and driers (Maytags that are about 10 years old). Other than having a belt replaced on the dryer, we haven't had many problems with them (other than water lines needing to be replaced every few years due to hard water). My wife keeps saying she wants to get one of the new steam models that hold more clothes (having 3 boys makes for a TON of laundry every week) but I am not sold on them yet.

Well, everyone have a good week and Happy Valentine's Day. We are planning an overnight get away with no kids, so we may have some peace and quiet.
