Marjo Dorine Crain 1/15/'39-3/21/'14
Marjo Dorine Crain, 75, of Brookings, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, AZ. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Brookings.
Marjo Fletcher was born on January 15, 1939 to Evert Gordon and Margery Mae (Black) Fletcher. She was born in Oacoma, South Dakota in a home owned by Merrill Sharp who would later govern South Dakota.
She was raised on a farm outside of Reliance, South Dakota where her earliest memories were of fishing, swimming, chores, bad winters, box socials, gumbo mud and having picnics on American Island. In 1954, the family moved into Reliance. Marjo was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. She graduated from Reliance High School in 1957. Marjo met Maurice Dale Crain at the Rainbow Café in Chamberlain, South Dakota in 1955 and were united in marriage on June 9, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Reliance.
After her marriage Marjo joined the Lutheran Church. They lived their first five years in Arlington, South Dakota and during this time they had three children, Michael Dale, Myrna Dorine and Mark Douglas. In 1962, they moved to Brookings where they owned and operated a trucking business. She later went on to manage a bread store before her employment at 3M, where she retired from in 1997. After her retirement the couple spent all of their winters in Arizona where their two sons and their families reside. Marjo loved her time spent there with family and warmer weather.
Family reunions and get togethers were a great joy for her. Tootling on a pontoon with her sister, Penny, on the Missouri at Chamberlain was her perfect day.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Maurice Crain; three children, Michael (Tami) Crain of Scottsdale, AZ, Myrna Crain Brown of Brookings, SD and Mark Crain (fiancé Tracey Pappas) of Gilbert, AZ; four grandchildren, Cody Brown of Minneapolis, MN, Emma Brown of Brookings, SD, Tyler and Trevor Crain of Scottsdale, AZ; five siblings, Patricia (Don) Weber of Pasadena, CA, Randy (Glenda) Fletcher of Lennox, SD, Steve (Delilah) Fletcher of Renner, SD, Penny (Jerry) Marsh of Reliance, SD and Lori (Denny) Marsh of Reliance, SD.
Marjo is preceded in death by her parents, Evert and Margery and one sister, Bonnie Gale.
Marjo deeply loved her family and friends. She touched many lives. God Bless.
