Funeral services for Lyle W. Stewart, 73, of Johnson, NE formerly of Reliance, SD was held Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 11 am at the Reliance Methodist Church in Reliance with burial in the Reliance Cemetery at Reliance. Visitation was Friday from 6 to 8 pm with family present at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 2 pm at the Johnson-Brock School in Johnson, NE.

 Lyle W. Stewart was born on February 12, 1939 in Reliance, South Dakota to Robert W. Stewart and Veva R. (Rockafellow) Stewart. He was one of four sons born to this union.

Lyle grew up on a farm outside of Reliance and graduated from Reliance High School and Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, South Dakota. After college he taught industrial technology at Jefferson Public School in Jefferson, South Dakota; Plattsmouth Community Schools in Plattsmouth, Nebraska; and Johnson-Brock School in Johnson, Nebraska. He was a role model and mentor to all students. His hobbies included woodworking, yard work, and restoring special interest cars.

Lyle and Mary Vogel were married on June 12, 1983 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. They made their home in Plattsmouth until 1991 when Lyle began teaching at Johnson-Brock.

Lyle passed away on March 13, 2012 at the Bryan LGH West Hospital in Lincoln, NE.  Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Carrol Stewart and Dean Stewart. Those left to mourn him are his wife Mary of Johnson, Nebraska, sons Vincent E. (Maura) Stewart of Gretna, Nebraska and G. Nathan (Louise) Vogel of Dover, Delaware; daughters Vickee R. Tomes and Valeree L. (Ron) Majors all of Bellevue, Nebraska; grandsons Zachary Tomes, Lincoln, Nebraska and Jeremy Majors, Bellevue, Nebraska; granddaughters Amara and Aria Vogel of Dover, Delaware. Other survivors include his brother Robert (Gladys) Stewart of Reliance, father-in-law and mother-in-law George and Betty Scheer; sister-in-law Sue Anne Scheer; sister-in-law Dorothy Stewart of Reliance, SD; brother-in-law George Scheer all of California, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to the Nemaha County Hospital emergency room in Auburn, Nebraska and the Johnson Rescue Squad in Johnson, NE.
