
Alan A. Hodgin 1932-1996
Funeral services for Alan A. Hodgin, 63, Florence, Oregon, formerly of Reliance, were held February 1, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Eugene, Oregon. Mr. Hodgin passed away January 30, 1996, at Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital at Eugene.
Alan Arthur Hodgin was born May2, 1932, at Reliance to Arthur and Carmen (Banks) Hodgin. He spent his youth in the Reliance area where he attended East Cooper School and graduated from Reliance High School in 1951. He took an interest and participated in many sports, especially baseball and fishing.
He entered the United States Navy in March, 1952 and served four years active duty; 18 mos. were spent in Korea.
Alan married Artie Lee Thomas in August of 1954.
After his discharge, Al worked as master mechanic and safety engineer with Peter Kiewit and Sons Construction; the past twenty five years as superintendent, working on projects in Alaska, Hawaii, California, Colorado, Washington & Oregon, where he retired in 1995.
Alan is survived by his wife; one son, James and wife Sandra of Springfield, Oregon; three daughters: Kim and husband, Terry Lawson of Walla Walla, Washington, Debbie and husband, James Smith of Gresham, Oregon, and Petty Officer Laura Mae Hodgin, U S Navy aboard the USS Sacramento, Bremerton, Washington; five grandchildren; two brothers: Kenneth & Ida Hodgin of Springfield, Oregon and Theron Hodgin, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; five sisters: Lorena Murphy, Rapid City; Mary Lou & husband Joe Winiger, Denver, Colorado; Shirley, and husband Mike Novak of Chamberlain; Rita and husband Clarence Strong of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and Vivian & husband Belvin Gillings of Academy, South Dakota; many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Paul and one sister, Helen.
