Frank W. Schooler 1940-2008

Frank William Schooler, of Mitchell and formerly of Reliance, went home to be with The Lord after a battle with cancer. He died on January 26, 2008. Services will be held, Saturday February 2, 2008 at the Reliance Methodist Church.

Born February 13, 1940, he is preceded in death by father Kenneth Schooler, sister Agnes (Schooler) Oakland, and brother Harry Schooler. Frank is survived by mother Arla Heib, Mitchell, sisters Vianne and her husband Harlan Stensaas of Mitchell, and Karla and her husband Jim Johnson of Durango Colorado; his five children: David and his wife Lynn (McGrath) Schooler of Eldridge IA, Timothy and his wife Eileen (Winegar) Schooler of Carver MN, Newley Schooler of Kimball, Carmen (Schooler) and her husband Alan Mevissen of Anoka MN, and Kenneth Schooler of Black River Falls WI; his six grandchildren, Aaron, Bradley, and Cody of Eldridge, Mitchell and Brooke of Carver, and Dominick of Kimball; and many nieces and nephews.

Frank was born and raised south of Reliance on the family farm where he eventually took over operations. He attended DSU in Madison where he met Janet Seuberling and married Dec. 15, 1959, having three sons.He taught school for a short time before focusing on the farm. He helped bring beefalo cattle to the state and managed to irrigate for the first time on the family homestead in 1967, which was always a dream of his father’s, Kenneth.

On August 1, 1975, he married Margaret Semmler of Sioux Falls and had two more children. After his kids were grown, he sold the farm and moved to Mitchell where he worked predominately for Mitchell Concrete. One of his life-long dreams was to learn to fly, and at the age of 60 he began flying lessons. He was very proud of his accomplishment to be able to go on a solo flight. Frank also loved to play his fiddle and sell Amsoil, Germanium and many other products he truly believed in. He has many friends and family that will miss his humor, wisdom, and love of people very much.
