Duane G. Lester, better known as " Dewey" to his family and friends, was born March 27, 1922 at Reliance, South Dakota to Aubrey and Tessie (Berg) Lester. He grew up in the Lyman and Reliance area and graduated from Reliance High School in 1940. As a young man he served in the US Army during World War II, serving in the European theater, mainly in Germany. After he completed his military obligation, they made their home in Reliance where he was employed with the Milwaukee Railroad. He retired as section foreman for the Milwaukee Railroad in 1984 after 44 years of service. Dewey was an avid hunter and fisherman and in his younger days was a very talented baseball player and enjoyed watching baseball in his later years especially the Tigers. Dewey was preceded in death by his Ruth(Husman) Lester on February 9, 1996. Grateful for having shared his life are his four sons, Terry Lester and his wife Cheryl, of Wall. Tim Lester and his wife Peggy, of Austin, Texas. Kenneth Lester and his wife, Lola of Round Lake Beach, Illinois, and Kelly Lester of Interior: two daughters Memory Collins and her husband, Marc of Rapid City, and Marcia Beckwith and her husband, Jim of Ft. Pierre, and his parents Aubrey and Tessie Lester; and host of other relatives and friends.
