Funeral Mass for Robert W. Hamiel, 75, of Miller, formerly of Reliance, was held Wednesday, May 26th,at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller, with Reverends Terry Weber and Donald Wolumby, celebrants. 

Mr. Hamiel passed away Saturday, May 22, 1999 at Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller.

Robert Hamiel was born January 29, 1924 to Elza "Pete" and Viola (Petersen) Hamiel.  He attended Reliance High School, graduating with the class of 1942.  He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in the Asian Pacific during WWII  until 1946. 

December 1, 1946, he married Margaret Sweeny of Kennebec.

He worked with the Soil Conservation Service, then ran a service station in Kennebec before he and his family moved to Miller in 1963, where he worked as a salesman for Tri-State Insulation. In 1969, he started his own business, Hamiel Home Improvement, which he remained involved with until his passing.

Mr. Hamiel was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, the VFW and a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, at home; three sons; Greg and wife, Cheryl, Brtton, Tom and wife, Jean, St. Lawrence, and Vince and wife, Kerry, Sious Falls; one brother, Delmar and wife, Joan, Rapid City; one sister, Helen and husband, Gene Mohr, Belle Fourche, and eight grandchildren: Christopher, Jennifer, Eric, Patrick, Mar, Scott, Katie and Alexis.

His parents, two brothers (Donald and Rex,) and three sisters: Irene Mellegaard, Dris Mellegaard and Norma Hamiel, preceded him in death.

Burial, with full military honors, was in St. Ann's Cemetery, Miller.

Rick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
