
Benjamin 'Benny' R. Husman Oct. 25, 1928-Oct. 27, 2005
Benjamin “Benny” R. Husman, age 77, of Mitchell, died October 27, at his residence under hospice care. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Harvest Community Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery with military rites.
Benny was born October 25, 1928 at Presho, SD to George and Helen (Lloyd) Husman. In 1934, they moved to Reliance. He attended all twelve years of school in Reliance and graduated from Reliance High School in 1946.
He played basketball, softball and baseball. He worked with his father and brother and ran a drayline. He worked for the railroad and the State Highway Department. He entered the military in 1951, and served in Japan and Korea and was discharged in 1952.
Benny married Joan Bourk July 21, 1957 at Lane, SD. He worked at Eddie’s Mobil Oil and then was employed for thirty-three years as a bookkeeper at Meyer’s Oil Co, retiring in 2001. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, watching TV, sports, and building bird houses. He loved music, especially Southern Gospel quartets and the Gaither Homecoming Friends. He loved the Lord with all his heart and soul. He was a member of the American Legion and the Harvest Community Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Mitchell; his children, Lori and husband, Douglas Crago, of Mitchell; Richard “Dick” Husman, and wife, Kay, Sioux Falls and Debra Husman, and husband, Les Carpenter, Spring Hill, Kansas; six grandchildren: Shawn, Jennifer, Sarah, Angela, Lance and Chad, one step-grandchild, Christina, one great grandchild, Bailey; sisters, Irene Wright, Mitchell and Aletha Buchanan, White Lake; one brother-in-law, Joseph “Don” King and a sister-in-law, Tillie Husman and five grand-dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mildred King, and Ruth Lester; brother, Lloyd Husman, and an infant sister, Marie.
