Robert G. 'Bob' Stewart 5/5/1929-3/17/2015
Funeral services for Robert G. "Bob" Stewart, 85, of Reliance, SD will be 2:00 pm Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Reliance, SD with burial in the Reliance Cemetery at Reliance. Visitation will be Friday at 5:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.
Bob was born May 5, 1929 at Chamberlain to Robert W. and Veva (Rockafellow) Stewart. He attended grade school at West Cooper Country School and graduated Reliance High School in 1949. He worked on the family farm until entering the U.S. Army in 1951 serving during the Korean War. He was stationed in Pirmasens, Germany where he delivered medical equipment and sometimes chauffeured Officers. He returned home in 1953 to work on the family farm and in 1961, he was "officially" Honorably Discharged from the Army.
On February 4, 1961, Bob was united in marriage to Gladys Mateicka at Pierre, SD. To this union, three children were born, Lisa his firstborn girl and to his surprise upon delivery were his twin sons Keith and Kent. He spent his life doing what he loved which was being on the farm with the animals and farming. He enjoyed his red tractors, fast cars and racing. Although he would never admit it, he did enjoy traveling. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and also his nieces and nephews. Bob liked to have fun and a good time was had by all when you were with him.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Reliance and of the Johnson-Peterson American Legion Post No 179 of Reliance.
Bob passed away on March 17, 2015 at Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake, SD at the age of 85 years. Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Gladys Stewart of Reliance, SD; daughter Lisa Hanten and husband Duane of Sioux Falls and their children Joshua Hanten, Jaime Blair and her children Jaedyn and Keagan, Janna Langley and husband Andy; son Keith Stewart and wife Janelle of Reliance and their children Sheldon and Haley Stewart, and son Kent Stewart of Reliance and his children Amy Neuharth and husband Troy and their son Christian, Aaron Stewart and wife Amanda, Kara Feddersen and husband Wayne, and Grant Stewart; two sisters-in-law Dorothy Stewart of Reliance and Mary Stewart of Johnson, NE; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers Lyle, Carroll, and Dean; a daughter-in-law Kim; a niece Alice Stewart-Cosgrove; two aunts Nina Rockafellow and Dorothy Prather; and an uncle Grant Rockafellow.
