Mary Schelle, 10/01/'31-1/01/'14
On January 1, 2014, Mary Schelle, 82, entered God’s arms and was reunited with many loved ones.Mass of Christian burial for Mary Schelle, 82, of Chamberlain, SD was held Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain. Father Guy Blair presided at the services. Mary will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Reliance, SDMary Julia Bowar was born to Fred and Julia (Fendrich) Bowar on October 1, 1931 at Reliance, SD. She grew up in Reliance and had one sibling, Charley Bowar.Mary received her teaching degree from Notre Dame Junior College in Mitchell and taught in Kimball for several years. She married Henry Schelle on June 3, 1951. From this union five children were born, Susan, Mary, Teri, Wanda and Dave. The family lived in Kennebec for several years before moving to Chamberlain. Her husband Henry passed away on March 28, 1990.While raising her family, Mary was a substitute teacher in the Chamberlain School system, was active in her church, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a very good seamstress and cook. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, working on her computer, and taking care of her yard. She liked music, dancing, playing the piano and singing in the church choir. Mary loved the Lord, life, her family and her special dog, Doli. She had tremendous energy and an independent spirit. She lived life with an ‘I can do this’ attitude and great faith. Mary had many treasured friends that held a special place in her heart. Forever loved, Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Susan (John) Janish of Colorado Springs, CO, Mary (Angel) Rea of Gilbert, AZ, Teri Engelgau of Maple Grove, MN, Wanda (Brad) Schwarz of Shakopee, MN, and Dave (Teresa) Schelle of Chamberlain, SD, 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her special brother and sister-in-law, Charley Bowar and wife Gloria of Kennebec, SD, sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita Bussmus of Mitchell, SD, Larry and Jan Schelle of Groton, SD and Helen and Ronald Sievers of Sioux Falls, SD and many nieces and nephews.Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry Schelle, Henry’s parents Henry and Anna Schelle, grandchildren Ashley Engelgau and Derek Schelle, great grandchildren Abigail and Samantha Janish and son-in-law Clint Engelgau.Pallbearers for Mary will be her grandsons John Janish, Matthew Janish, Dustin Schelle, Blake Rea and Jake Schwarz and nephew Rod Bowar. Honorary pallbearers will be her brother Charley Bowar and son-in-laws John Janish, Angel Rea and Brad Schwarz
