Roy O. Fletcher April 9, 1904- Oct. 19, 2001
Roy O. Fletcher, 97, died Oct. 19, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital, Pierre. Services were October 22, 2001 at the United Methodist Church, Reliance, with Reverend Stephen Perry Officiating. Burial was at the Reliance Cemetery.
Roy Fletcher was born April 9, 1904, on the family farm near Reliance to Fred W. and Minnie Fletcher Fletcher. He attended grade school and graduated from Reliance High School.
On June 29, 1925, he was united in marriage to Elsie Albert at Reliance. They lived on and farmed the Fletcher homestead until he retired. She died Jan. 25, 1974.
As a youth, Roy was a Lone Scout before the Boy Scouts became a chartered organization. He tried to live the creed, 'Do a good deed everyday'. Roy was a kind and generous man who enjoyed helping his neighbors. He would take them to the hospital in one of the first glassed-in cars in the area. Roy was a pilot, and during the winter of '51-'52 he flew rescue missions in the Reliance-Kennebec area. His plane had skis to help with those that were snowbound. He also fixed farm machinery for neighbors.
He had many hobbies and interests including painting and making ceramic cups and bunnies by the hundreds and giving them to his many friends. Roy had a love for good music and shared it with his friends by giving them tapes. Roy served on the Reliance School Board for many years.
Wevik Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
