Gertrude A. Larson 1904-1997
Funeral service for Gertrude A. Larson, 92, Chamberlain, formerly of rural Hamill, were held Wednesday, June 4 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hamill. Mrs. Larson passed away Saturday, May 31, 1997, at Sunset Valley Haven Nursing Home in Chamberlain.
Gertude A. Larsen was born Oct. 23, 1904, at Omaha, NE to Nels and Sena (Hansen) Larsen. The family homesteaded in Tripp Country. She attended Gassman School and graduated from Reliance High School. She attended Ward Academy and later taught school. She lived in the Hamill area nearly all her life.
April 27, 1927, Gertrude married Theodore Larson. He passed away in 1980. In 1991, she became a resident of Sunset Valley. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in Ladies Aid.
Gertrude is survived by fourchildren: Velma and Bob Yates, Chamberlain; Fern and Matt Zastrow, Sioux Falls, and Glen and wife, Barbara, and Darrel and wife Frances, all of Hamill; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Goodman, Chamberlain and Margaret Gromer, Winner, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant grandson, four brothers: Lewis, Albert, Herman and Walter Larsen; one sister, Anna Sondergard, and an infant sister.
Burial was in the Winner Cemetery.
