On August 25, 1929 Arleen was united in marriage to Eldrid “Shorty” Swanson.  They made their home in Kennebec where Shorty delivered fuel oil and later purchased and operated the Philips 66 Station in Kennebec. She taught in several Lyman County country schools.
They purchased a farm four miles south of Reliance and farmed from 1943 until 1950 before owning and operating the Conoco Station in Reliance where she did bookkeeping and helped in the adjoining cafe’.  In 1985, they moved into Chamberlain and Arleen remained in her home until 2008 when she moved to Riverview Retirement Assisted Living in Chamberlain.  In October of 2011 Arleen moved to the Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake.
In 2002, Arleen was privileged to be able to celebrate her husband’s 100th birthday along with their 73rd wedding anniversary.
Because of her love of flowers, she thoroughly enjoyed working at Erikson’s Greenhouse in Reliance. For several years, she volunteered in Kim Dougherty’s first grade class in the Chamberlain School District and also received the Friend of Education Award from the C.E.A.
Gratefully sharing her life are her two sons Garry Swanson and wife Marlys and Kermit Swanson and wife Judy all of Chamberlain; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.
