Alice H. Hodgin-Kentch, 1911-1994

 

 Funeral services for Alice H. Kentch, 83, of Oacoma  were held Monday, December 5, 1994 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Reliance with Father Tony Kelley, SCJ and Father Yvon Sheely, SCJ officiating. Rosary/Scripture service was held Sunday, December 4th at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain.  Alice passed away Friday,  December 2, 1994 at Mid Dakota Hospital, Chamberlain.

Alice, the youngest of 15 children was born August 3, 1911 on a farm southeast of Reliance to Alonzo and Flora (Blanchard) Hodgin.  She attended East Cooper School and graduated from Reliance High School in 1929.  She attended Springfield Normal  and taught school in Lyman County for four years.

On September 21, 1935, Alice married E. George Kentch at Reliance.  She worked as a postal clerk at Reliance until 1956, when they moved to Murdo, where she again worked as a postal clerk.  They moved to Kadoka in 1959  where she cooked for the Kadoka School for several years.  In 1975 they moved to Rapid City and in 1985 they moved to their home in Oacoma.

Alice was a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society and Senior Citizens.

Alice is survived by her husband, George, at home in Oacoma, two sons, Charlie and  wife Donna Kentch, Port Orchard, Washington and Ed and wife Mary Kentch, Omaha, Nebraska; one daughter, Sharon, and husband Don Raymond, Billings, Montana; one brother, John Hodgin, Santa Rosa, California;  two sisters, Agnes Ward, Hesperia, California, and Sarah Harder, Rapid City, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, one grandson, nine brothers and two sisters.

Burial was at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetary in Reliance.  Wevik Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
